Text Button

I am using Cap 2 and want to use the standard Text button. I also want to have a series of questions on one slide. However, I would like to have the ability to "left" justify the text. It seems that the default is center justified. I can force all the questions numbered 1, 2, 3, etc to look in alignment on the slide but is there a method to change the properties on the text button to "left" justification?

Hi tiptie

Hmmm, lots of unresolved issues and unanswered questions here.

You are talking about using a standard "Text Button". But you later say you want a series of questions on one slide? How does this factor into a Text Button? Or by "Text Button", do you really mean you are creating a "Text Caption" that simply displays text?

Additionally, I'm guessing you aren't using the actual "Question Slide" functionality built into Captivate? You are kind of "Rolling your own" type of questions somehow? I say this because question slides are individual and you cannot ask more than a single question on a slide.

Cheers... Rick

I am creating a branching system where a question then leads to another slide with more "drill down" questions which then could lead to other slides, etc.

Each question on each slide then jumps to another slide.

I am using the Text Button properties rather than overlaying a fancy button with the text there. It simply saves time.

Remember, I am not creating a "test". There are no correct answers. I simply need a Text Button that allows the text to be left justified.

I also want a transparent button so that the user only sees a series of text questions.

Am I missing something here?

Hi again

Am I missing something here?

Quite the contrary. I think it's ME that's missing something.

Okay, you aren't using the normal question slides. Right? You are just entering text on standard run-of-the-mill slides and using buttons to control which slides to jump to. Am I understanding you so far?

I'm getting lost when you are looking for text alignment options for buttons. I suppose you are simply using the Transparent button type and placing the questions and numbers as part of the button?

I suppose if I were to try something similar, I'd use a transparent Text Caption object for this. At least with that object, you have alignment options. Then I'd insert Click Box objects above the captions that did what the buttons are now doing.

Cheers... Rick

Rick, thanks for your quick response. You are right. Explaining further.

"I'm getting lost when you are looking for text alignment options for buttons. I suppose you are simply using the Transparent button type and placing the questions and numbers as part of the button?"

You figuered it out! Thanks

I am creating a trouble shooting program that asks a series of questions on the state of an item. I might have 10 questions on each slide.

If the user then clicks on one of the questions that I ask, then the user is taken to another slide that "drills" down further into the problem area he is encountering.

I know that I can create a text caption overlay on top of the standard text button and it can be justified.

I was simply trying to create this VERY long program in a shorter time period by eliminating the two layer button system.

But, I may have to resort to the two button/click box as you explained in your last paragraph. Sigh............... I was trying to find a quicker way to create this program.

Hi again

Don't forget that you have other alignment options available. For example, if you create two or more transparent buttons, you can select them both and right-click to see the context menu. There, you can choose to align left edges or other options.

Of course, this would also require that the buttons are appropriately sized first. And Captivate has issues with that when it comes to Text Buttons. No doubt you have cursed it as the buttons NEVER size themselves to accommodate the amount of text contained in them, eh?

Good luck with your project. I wish I had a magickal way of making the alignment thing work easier.

Cheers... Rick

I think that Adobe should look at all the other uses we are putting this program to.

A single button that has all the current properties. (I am obviously using the "jump to another slide" function).

Everything is just perfect.... except in the "Button Type" and "Button Text" section of properties, it does allow the Font selection but unfortunatly for me, it does not have a simple "alignment" option.

Darn...... more work for me.
