Timeline/adding a new element

This is something that is sort of frustrating so I thought I'd ask.

When adding an element to the screen, is there a way to have the timeline default to show that element for the rest of the slide? Seems logical that Captivate would just do this as a default so items don't disappear during playback.

Easy to make Rest of Slide to be the default, but you'll have to specify it once for all object types in Preferences, Defaults. Here is a screenshot where I specified it for Text Captions:

If you set these Preferences before opening a project, they will be valid for all future projects. You can also export/import Preferences. Beware: this is the work flow for objects that are not yet added. If you want to do this for existing objects, use the Timing Properties panel, after you set it to Rest of slide for one object of that type (or style):
