Toggle closed captions

Community Beginner ,

Hello all-

Im looking for a way to have a button at the beginning of my project that the user can click to turn on closed captions. If they click it, I'd like for the captions to be visible from the entire project, if they dont click it, I want the captions to be hidden.

Is this possible?

Thanks for your time!

There is such a button on the default playbars.

If you want a custom button, have a look at my blog post:

1 action = 5 Toggle Buttons - Captivate blog

However, if you are on CP2017 there is a bug that will hopefully be fixed soon, that will reset the CC on each slide which shouldn't be the case, worked perfectly on previous versions.

Awesome, thanks so much!

Unfortunately, I am on CP2017 so I guess I have to wait for the bug to be fixed.

There is a hotfix, you could try to ask for it.

Hello and thank you for your excellent advice over the years.

Much appreciated.

I was wondering if you needed to add the action of hiding the playbar for each slide if you uncheck all the playbar buttons in the Skin Editor screen?  The playbar is "on", but no buttons show up.

You want to keep the playbar only for the progress bar? I almost never use a playbar, because most of my projects allow branching and free navigation and the progress bar is just distracting in that case because it is purely linear. It is also the reason why I prefer creating custom buttons for every wanted functionality of the default playbars, and often allow navigation by TOC (which also shows sort of progress, but not necessarily linear).

Thanks for responding.

No, I agree:  don't like the progress bar or any playbar buttons.

Was just wondering if I could avoid adding actions to hide the playbar on every screen, and didn't bother to test it myself.

Now that I have, I find it doesn't work.

Your workaround does, though.

You should be getting paid by Adobe!  I'd have had to give up on Captivate if it weren't for you and one other person.
