Verification that someone has completed training?

Hello,

I just downloaded a trial version of Captivate and before I decide to buy the software, I need to know if it can do something specific for me. I've watched the training videos and looked around the support section and I can't find what I need...

Can I set up a slide that users can fill out and click on to verify that they have completed a training? It would be even better if it were to have a certificate of completion come up after they fill out the verification.

Here's the idea.

Trainees watch short presentation

Then trainess complete a quiz

After quiz they fill out their name and agency info info a short form

They check a box that says they have indeed finished the training and if they completed quiz and filled out the form then the last slide would be a certifcate that they could print out.

If they don't complete the quiz and/or form, they either have to start over with the quiz or go back to the form.

Does that make any sense? My coding experience is nill, so I don't even know if I am asking my questions correctly. Is this something that I could do by myself without having to hire a programmer?

Sure. There's a widget for that. There might even be an online demo that uses it, I don't recall offhand.

Hi Megan

I believe what Mr. Partridge is referring to is the certificate Widget supplied by Captivate 4. Certainly it allows one to have a certificat of completion.

However, as I understand your question, it is really twofold in nature, no?

1. You want some sort of electronic indication that the user has completed the course. Perhaps an acknowledgement sent back to a database or something.

2. You want the certificate.

Mr. Partridge has given you the answer for the second part. So here's the answer for the first.

Captivate creates output that is often uploaded to and works in conunction with a Learning Management System (LMS). When a LMS serves a Captivate movie to a learner, it engages in a conversation. The "language" the conversation uses is typically known as SCORM or AICC. That's how Captivate works best. Captivate does also offer E-Mail reporting to a specific E-Mail address, but it's very unreliable and works about 50% of the time.

Now this reporting is usually the result of a quiz, where you ask questions of the learners and they are graded on the accuracy of the answers they supply. But there are often times when all you need is an acknowledgement that they viewed the course. That is easily obtained by just inserting a Button object on a slide near the end. The Button is configured to report back.

thank you. I will look into an LMS. Do you have any suggestions for good ones? Do any come with Adobe packages?

Adobe offers Connect Professional which you may subscribe to. If you have the Learning module, it can function as a LMS.

Unfortunately, there are gobs of different LMS' out there. Just a few I think I've heard of:

Moodle (open source - Free to use)

Angel

Cornerstone

Adobe Connect, as Rick mentions, is as close to an 'LMS' as Adobe gets.

And it's not *really* an LMS, in my opinion. It's more a webmeeting tool. But that may be subjective.

Also as Rick mentions, there are LOTS of LMS products out there.

http://www.inquisiqr3.com is the one I use.

http://www.simplelms.net is one that has come up recentley as a cheap, barebones, LMS.

http://www.wbtmanager.com is one that's been around a while and is reasonably respected.

All those are at the lower-end of the cost spectrum.There are many others that are much more expensive and much more featureful. It's definitely a big pool. Enjoy the swim 😉
