Correction. 

Captivate is indeed BACKWARD Compatible because later versions of Captivate can open projects created in earlier versions. 

However it is not FORWARD Compatible because earlier versions (e.g. Cp8) cannot open projects created in later versions (e.g. Cp9).

If you doubt this definition, Google it.
