versoin 11.8.1 buggy, reverting to previous version of Captivate

I need to revert to a previous version because the new 11.8.1 version is buggy and stalling my project creation.  But my experience is each new version of Captivate has been able to edit projects made in previous versions, and makes it it's own... but, you cannot, then, take that project back to an older version - is there a workaround for this?  Must I recreate in the older version?

(Edit newer-version Captivate project in an older version of Captivate?)

There is no option in Captivate to Save As (previous version).  I know that Microsoft Office and some Adobe apps might have been able to do something like that but Captivate cannot.

You are correct that Captivate is BACKWARD compatible in that newer versions of Captivate can open older versions, but it is not FORWARD compatible.  This means that if you upgrade a CPTX file by editing it with a later version of Captivate then you often run into problems because that file can then ONLY be opene

You are correct that Captivate is BACKWARD compatible in that newer versions of Captivate can open older versions, but it is not FORWARD compatible.  This means that if you upgrade a CPTX file by editing it with a later version of Captivate then you often run into problems because that file can then ONLY be opened and edited by that later version.

Until Captivate 2019 this only usually happened when you upgraded a project to a new major version of Captivate. E.g. going from Captivate 2017 to Cp 2019.  But due to the extremely long time it has taken Adobe to produce a new major Captivate version we have seen that some of the minor version updates for Cp 2019 have also resulted in files being unable to be opened and edited by earlier Cp 2019 versions.

So, if you were to decide to unitnstall Cp 2019 version 11.8.1 and roll back to an earlier version, I think you would probably find that you can only roll back to 11.8 and not earlier, otherwise you would lose the ability to edit your project.

A more productive endeavour might be to try and resolve the issues you are having with 11.8.1.  What exactly are the bugs and problems?

So far my own encounters:

- Importing a CPVC file to a CPVC slide in a CPTX project, then attempting to edit (e.g. Trim) and Exit/Save the video in that slide, causes Captivate to hang; all indications you were working on the project disappear.  The only recourse is to close Captivate.

- Inserting PIP video to a CPVC project, the MP$ loses audio in the project.  Playback from the Library has audio.

- Publishing: the modular window intermittantly will not let me edit the parameters.

One of my colleagues who also upgraded experienced some of these and similar issues.

The only issue I had with the previous version (11.8) was that if my project had an imported MP4, when published, that slide would only show the loading/buffer icon and the video would never play.  This newer 11.8.1 did fix that issue, but I already had a workaround for it, so reverting instead of trying to figure out workarounds for new issues will probably let us move forward in our projects more quickly.  I had already used the new voices in a project, so, that is sad.

Like Rod, I would like to hear which bugs you are talking about? 11.8.1 has taken out a lot of SWF-based workflows, and maybe you are referring to some of them which were still present in former versions but didn't work in output.

I have read that post already, some of them were mentioned also by other users. I prefer still 11.5.5.553 so far.

Can you give some more details about the publishing dialog box issues, those are new to me?

Publishing from CPVC, it may be possible to duplicate at least one instance, as I just had it happen again:  after editing the title and adjusting the Encoding, the FPS field is frozen.
