Why are rounded corners on smart shapes fuzzy and pixelated?

Using Captivate 8. The rounded corners on Smart shapes look fuzzy and pixelated. Not cool. The square corners look not-so-hot too, but less noticeable than rounded corners. Any advice to smooth them out?

Hi There,

Can you share the screenshot of the Smart Shape with fuzzy rounded corners ? Are you facing this issue in preview ( Before publishing ) or after publishing ?

Have you updated your Captivate 8 by going to Help > Updates ?

Regards,

Ajit

Published PDF fuzzy corners.PNGCaptivate is updated. The fuzzy corners appear in both preview and published projects. I have attached a screen shot.

Hi There,

Are you facing the same issue on a new blank project as well or only with a particular project ?

Regards,

Ajit

You have to remember that these shapes get converted into images when Captivate publishes out.  They're not vector shapes anymore at that point, which means you lose the smoothness and scalability that vectors might offer.

You can try increasing your Slide Quality setting to High 24 bit (if it's not at that setting already), but unless this is indeed a bug, I think you may just have to live with it.

Hmm. Quality is set to High. I can't be the only one to experience this effect. A notably poor visual result.

I'm having the same issue using Captivate 9. I used SmartShapes to make my own navigation buttons. The buttons are rounded and instead of nice, smooth lines, they are pixelated and jagged after publishing. You'd think that a company such as Adobe who are leaders in the graphics department would sort this out!

Can you show a screenshot? Are you publishing to HTML or to SWF? How did you check the result: after uploading to a webserver? Do you perhaps allow scalable HTML, or to rescale the browser? That could explain the bitmap output to be pixelated. Do you look at the course in the original resolution and see the same? Is it a responsive or a normal project?

Shapes are vector based, but output is bitmap. I personally use shape buttons a lot, didn't see what you mean but it can be my eyes of course. At this moment it is not yet possible to fill a shape with a SVG.

Hi Lilybiri-

Thanks for the very prompt reply! I enjoy your Blog and find it very informative.

I have attached 3 screen shots: A shot showing my Navigation Bar native within Captivate 9, a shot showing the same thing in Preview mode, and a third shot showing it in Firefox as HTML5.

It’s not a huge deal, but it’s kind of distracting to me.

Thank you,

Peter Arthur

You cannot attach anything to an answer, you have to use the still camera icon in the browser version to insert images (you can also insert video):

I have noticed the same thing and it looks terrible.  To get around it, I created some new graphics in Illustrator (that look just like the smart shape I wanted to use), and inserted those into my project.  It looks a lot better.
