Bullets not retaining hanging indent

Guest

When I import my Powerpoint presentation into Captivate 4, sometimes the hanging indent for the bullets comes across just fine. Other times, Captivate disregards the hanging indent completely. I've tried lots of work arounds. I've even resorted to pasting in bullet characters and using tabs, rather than a hanging indent--even that didn't work. Why won't bullets align properly on a hanging indent sometimes (but do align correctly other times)? I've attached a couple of screenshots to show what I'm talking about. I figure it has something to do with how Captivate interprets the text it imports, but I can't find a setting to adjust.

I am having the same issue with CP3 and PPT 2007. I'm seeing all kinds of issues - font color, tables, etc. I added screen shots to a new post requesting CP and PPT 2007 issues. We never saw these issues with PPT 2003. Have you heard anything on this issue?

I've not found a solution yet. However, I'm wondering if saving my source material in Powepoint 2003 would help.

(And just for the record... I HATE Office 2007! Why, why did they change the interface? I've been using this software suite for 15 years, and now I fumble around constantly.)

Hi there marmaduke

I HATE Office 2007! Why, why did they change the interface? I've been using this software suite for 15 years, and now I fumble around constantly.)

Just making an educated guess here. Probably when Microsoft did their testing, they used a pool of users that had never used Office products. I'm guessing they designed the UI based on that aspect. Probably makes total sense to someone with no experience.

Unfortunately, it's like a virus. Many other vendors are now changing the way their products look to follow suit. TechSmith SnagIt went that way. I HATE the new interface and find it much more difficult to use than before. Just my $.02 worth though.

Hmmm, given the media frenzy surrounding the world economy, I guess that means I owe YOU a nickel!

Cheers... Rick

CP3 won't even recognize pptx files for import so you have to save as the PPT 2003 version. Does CP4 recognize pptx? I guess if this glitch is happening with CP4 there's no need to request an upgrade for the department. A lot of us work out of PPT and import into CP3. So much of our work already exists in this format that there's no way we can switch to entering the content directly into CP - complete waste of time at this stage.

I've yet to have any luck with formatting bullets in Captivate (1, 2, or 3). When I'm formatting, I cut-and-paste the text from the Captivate caption into a Word file, format the bullets, then cut-and-paste them back into the caption. Sometimes, I then have to backspace from the first text character of a bulleted item (erasing the tab, which sometimes grows in width), and space back to where it should be, but it works.

Good luck.

Joyce

I actually am talking about importing PPT slides into CP, not entering text directly into text boxes (although I've had issue w/ this too!). CP seems to reformat bullets and hanging indent settings on import. It even changes font size, color, and location sometimes.

Sorry, can't help you there. I don't understand Captivate's overall

problem with bullet formatting. Another of the many frustrations.

Like I said, good luck!

Joyce

Did you ever get an answer? I'm having the same problem with hanging indents not working from PowerPoint.

I don't believe I did. I've found that reformatting is necessary when bringing text from wherever into Captivate 5.
