Can Audio be Copied from One Slide to Another?

I am using Captivate 1.01.1418, and have created a movie by importing almost 40 PowerPoint slides. I added audio to each slide. Today, I found that a handful of slides need minor edits. So, I fixed them, re-imported them, and am now looking for a way to transfer the audio from the previous version of these slides to the replacements.

Is there a way to do this?

There are basically two ways to accomplish this.

1. Click Audio > Edit timing. Then select parts of the waveform, copy and paste in different slides.
2. Click Audio > Advanced Audio and export the desired file. Then visit the slide where you want it and choose Audio > Import.

thanks for your speedy and oh-so-succinct response, Rick!

I did try option 1 several times, but the clipboard doesn't seem to hold copied audio long enough for me to get into the destination slide and paste it in. The only thing I can think of that may be the problem is that I didn't have my headset plugged in, so was trying to paste copied audio without creating an actual audio record on the destination slide first. I am going to try it again with my headset - talk a few seconds, then save, edit, and see if I can paste.

If that doesn't work, on to your Export / Import idea.

Will keep y'all posted. I wonder why this isn't easier to do - I would think there is a great use for it....

It's likely because you are using version 1. If you were using version 3, it is *MUCH* simpler! You may wish to download and install the Captivate 3 trial just to see.

Good morning, Rick, or whatever it is in your little corner of the world.
I tried again to copy and paste audio from one slide to another - no go. There was nothing to paste by the time I closed out of one slide and opened the other.

But no big - I tried the export / import route, and that worked perfectly. I was initially worried about sound quality, but for no good reason. The sound was as clear as the original.

I'm happy it works for you, but I think you may have missed a step. I suggested the copy/paste thing in the Audio > Edit Timing dialog. Sounds like you were somehow moving from slide to slide in a different area. When I tested in that dialog it worked. At least it did on my own PC.

Probably nothing to worry further with as you resolved it using option 2!

I'm using Captivate 5.5, and found ran into this same question. Here was what I did:

1. Go to the slide that currently has the audio.
2. Right-click on the Audio timeline and select Find in the Library (CTRL+B)
3. Make note of the Audio track name/number in the Library (it's the middle tab on the right-hand pane in Captivate)
4. Go to the new slide where you want to 'import' / copy the audio
5. Go to the Properties tab (it's the left / first tab on the right-hand pane in Captivate), and click on Edit Audio button in the AUDIO section.
6. Click on the Library button on the bottom of the resulting Slide Audio dailog box.
7. Select the audio track name/number and optionally edit it.
8. Optionally remove/edit the audio from the original slide.

I can see that export/import would probably still be valid in Captivate 5+, but I was looking for a quicker way using the existing info in the file, and I think this works.

Perhaps even quicker to drag the audio clip from the library to the stage. After identifiying it on the original slide, you can even delete it there, it will not disappear from the Library,

Yes! That works and is easier. I think I was trying to find an easier drag-and-drop or right-click option to do this and wasn't successful... maybe I was trying to drag it to the timeline bar or something. But yet, dragging it into the slide allows you to replace the existing audio (or provide audio if none is there), etc.

Hello!  I'm in Captivate 9 and it appears the only way to move audio from one slide to another is by exporting the audio then importing it to the desired slide.  Is there another option in Captivate 9 that I'm missing?

Did you read this whole thread? All audio clips used in the file, are in the Library. You can drag such a clip to a slide to create slide audio.
