Captivate or Camtasia?

Hi, I just saw Captivate today after looking at the Camtasia site. I would buy Camtasia if it were for mac but it is only for Windows. So is Captivate just like Camtasia and why is it so friggin expensive. Camtasia is only 299 so why is Captivate $700. Ridiculous!

Capitvate costs that much because it is from Adobe. That's it. I am using Captivate AND Camtasia and prefer the second one for screencasts. The quiz-modul in captivate is better.

Hi all

To claim the pricing is as it is simply "Because it's from Adobe and that's it" (Paraphrasing here) isn't very fair.

Adobe is now the fourth owner of the product known as Captivate. I think much of the pricing structure had already been established by the time Adobe owned it.

If you feel it is priced too high or unfairly, you should tell Adobe so. You may feel that you have done just that in your post here. But Adobe has a preferred channel of communucation. It is called the Wish Form.

Rick, I understand but I don't have time to chase down Adobe and tell them myself, I am trying to make a living, I think that if the (Adobe) really are concerned about what consumers think about their software, pricing or otherwise, that they should visit the Forums once in awhile and read posts like this one or they should get their moderators like yourself to forward our concerns to them.

As a consumer I will vote with my wallet and buy something else more reasonably priced.

The time you spent complaining here could have been spent telling Adobe what
you think.

I would think there would be a much larger market for a product like Camtasia that is 1/3 the price and with most of the same features as Captvate. Of course I realize I am not going to get a lot of support for this in a Captivate Forum but that's just how I see it. Who knows I may have bought Captivate over Camtasia, but not for 3 times the price.

I just installed Camtasia to play around with it, so I'm just a newb. Smart Focus is pretty cool but I think there might be some time saving features in Captivate, e.g., auto callouts, auto click boxes. Not sure if Cam can do that. I also like the fact that in Cap you can tell it to only record interactions. In Cam, I think you have to hit pause every time you want to stop recording. I've found that with Cap I don't usually need to do full-motion recording. I'm just learning Cam to see if it makes sense for some kinds of interactions. In the long run, Cap might take less post processing time. I dunno... yet. Is Cap expensive? That's all relative. You might save enough time to pay for the software in short order.

Because Captivate is not the same as Camtasia. They are two different
products. Captivate has many features that Camtasia does not, since it is
intended for fully interactive training, practice and assessment.

captivate is currently Windows only too ...
