Sure.  Just select the mouse object on the slide where you want it to be different and then select a different pointer from the Options tab.  If you want to use a pointer that isn't listed, you can click the Browse button to navigate to an alternate cursor file. Maybe I'm wrong, but in software simulation mode, there is no mouse object?!

Cheers,

Jurek

You normally change the mouse cursor AFTER capturing screens.

Are you worried about this because you need to capture Full Motion Video?

Hello Jurek,

When you point at 'software simulation mode' are you talking about Training simulation or about Full Motion Recording. I'm a bit puzzled, thinking you mean the first one because you compare it to 'demo(nstration) mode'. Indeed,  you will not have a mouse object in Training simulation, but you can add it using the Insert menu, Standard objects, Mouse.

Hi all

Okay, drawing a bit from my call center background here.

@Rod and Lilybiri - If I'm understanding correctly, Jurek has created a simulation with Captivate and s/he wishes to give the user the "full" experience. I'm guessing this would be like recording Captivate itself and asking the user to first insert a drawing object. Then, as the mouse moves to "draw" the object, what is wanted is to change the actual user's mouse pointer in realtime as if they really were using Captivate (or any other application where the pointer changes depending on the actions)

@Jurek - If I've understood you correctly, there is no way I'm aware of that this can be done. The only "realtime" mouse pointer change that I've seen in Captivate is to provide the hand mouse cursor over a clickable object such as a Click Box.

But Rod and his fancy Flash skills will probably now tell us that he has a really ÜberSuperNeatoCool Captivate widget that he whipped up for just such an eventuality!

Cheers all... Rick

Actually, some months ago we did an e-seminar with Alan Partridge about how to create Captivate widgets and the widget we created during the seminar enabled you to place a graphic on the Captivate stage (we used a clip art graphic of a screwdriver) and have the mouse pointer change to become this graphic when you moused over the widget area.\

It was just a demonstration widget, but it had a lot of possibilities for game-based learning interactions where you might want to change the mouse cursor into any number of things. (Tristan actually had one question where you had to defuse a bomb by severing the red or blue wire with a pair of pliers and we used the widget to change the mouse cursor into pliers.)

But I'm still not sure whether Jurek is trying to change the mouse cursor during capture or only at runtime in the completed movie.

Rod,

This is exactly what I'm looking for.  Do you have instructions on how to create such a widget?

I would like the cursor to change to an image of a pen on a slide where they click on a picture of a piece of paper.  On another slide, I would like it to change to a picture of a hand, where they will click a picture of a power button.

Thanks,

Micky

Go to this link: http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2010/12/advanced-adobe-captivate-widget-creation-another-experience...

Watch both of the e-seminars linked on this page.  One is a beginners one for setting up to create widgets.  The second one takes it a bit further to adding more functionality.

If you want even more information, go to the Widget King Blog: http://www.infosemantics.com.au/widgetking/

The rest is just learning ActionScript 3.  The more AS3 you know, the more powerful the widgets will be.

The webinares are great!  Showed exactly what needed to be done.  One note - After i was done with the widget, I shrank it to 6x6 so it hid the text box.

All you need is to watch and follow along with these two webinars:

http://www.infosemantics.com.au/widgetking/2010/11/sign-up-for-the-widget-eseminars/

Now I just need to keep finding new projects that require me to push the limits of captivate and widgets.

I am grateful and mostly satisfied with the eSeminars cited in this thread.

I did encounter one problem: Two mice (the orignal mouse and the image) appear when I rollover a text entry box. Does anyone know how to hide the mouse (the I cursor) that associated with the text entry box?

Yes Captiv8r, you got me right.

I got a  training simulation. In the application, the mouse pointer changes to a cross hair.I want that behaviour during the playback of the interactive training simulation.

Cheers,

Jurek
