Streaming Video not working in Captivate

Hi,

We were trying to embed a streaming video (see link below) into a Catpivate project by selecting "Video -> Insert Video > Event  Video > Already deployed to a web server ....." and then copied the following link into the URL filed. When we published the project and launched it on browser, the videoplayer on that slide didn't show up and the video didn't play back.

Also, we tried to use the Chrome "Developer Tools" to inspect the network, it seems this particular video wasn't on request on Page load.

Does anybody have any idea on this or could tell us the correct way of embeding streaming videos into Captivate?

Though I have one suggestion-- On the slide where you want to put the video-- Go to Slide Properties-- Action --On Enter-- Open File or URL -- Paste your URL in the Space and the set it to open in current window.

Now try publishing and check if your video plays this way?

Thanks for your prompt reply.

We had read the link above but that seems to be specific for rtmp streaming videos and we have no problem of embeding rtmp streaming videos in Capative.

As we need the output in HTML5 which doesn't support RTMP, we're looking at HTTP Adaptive Streaming, or if that's not possible, basic HTTP Progressive Download from our CDN.

Any idea on how to get this type of video working in Captivate?

Video Streaming is not tested and supported on HTML5 output.

Thanks for your reply, but if captivate 6 doesn't support embedding Streaming videos for HTML5 output, this may become a big problem for us, as we don't really want to put all videos(since there are many) inside the final generated SCORM package, if doing that, the package will become huge in filesize, this may cause a big negative impact on the course performance when we deploy the course into a LMS system.

Any other suggestions or workarounds, please advice. We might look at re-encoding our videos, trying to bring the video filesize down if embeding videos locally is the only option for HTML5 output in Captivate.

We are having the same problem, we really need to stream the videos as file size is huge otherwise. Adobe's list of things that are not compatible with HTML5 does include RTMP streaming however it says nothing about HTTP streaming so does any one know why this also doesn't work? And if this too doesn't work then why didn't Adobe include it on their list of incompatible items? By not including it they implied that it would work using HTTP streaming, which as far as I can tell, is not true. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

This suggestion worked pefectly for us!  We spent half a day trying to use the media interface to add our video from our web server and it would always deny the url. When using your suggestion... BINGO!  It worked on the first attempt.

Hi Amy,

I am Sorry but Streaming is Not supported on HTML5 , Let it be RTMP or HTTP.

The only workaround is to publish it as a swf file and then upload on your LMS.

Streaming will Work fine on SWF.

Yes and no. You can't stream directly but you can use an embed code and stream from Vimeo or any other media server.

If you mean true streaming, from rtmp, the answer is no. HTML5 video still does not support this natively.

Progressive download, yes.
