My first chance at properly experimenting with Ch.
I created a simple puppet in AI using your downloadable template. Imported fine, Record shows puppet moving, mouth, eyes, etc. Responding to webcam and microphone.
Go into Rig to make adjustments, and as soon as I click on an adjustment it crashes to desktop, no freezing, no error message, nothing in Task Manager to show that Ch is still running.
The crash creates 3 files:
Character Animator2BlockRecovery
Character Animator.exe.16152.dmp
Character Animator2FileRecovery.xml
The same also happens with the template puppets; blank face, red monster and sticky, even the Frankenstein introduction puppets (possibly more I didn't try).
It seems to happen on both PSD and AI based puppets.
I have tried reinstalling Ch, I have tried wiping all traces of Ch and cleaned the registry, restarting the PC, I have tried reinstalling Illustrator. I have also tried updating my nVidia gfx drivers and all other drivers.
All other Adobe programs seem to work fine (at least, the ones I use)
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Specs if you need them:
i7 8750H Coffee Lake based laptop
Windows 10 Home x64
GTX 1060 Max-Q 6GB on driver version 419.35
16GB Ram DDR4
SSD + HDD
Built in display + External monitor in Extend mode.
EDIT Just tried Ch 2.0 (Build 257), same issue.
EDIT 2: Just tried 1.5 (Build 138), and it worked once with Chloe, but after reloading, it crashes in the same way.
EDIT 3: Beta crashes the same way too.
FURTHER EDITS:
- Tested with a single monitor instead of dual/extended configuration. Still the same problem.
- Event Viewer says the issue is with a part of nVidia's driver package:

OK, solved it. Posting how in case anyone has a similar problem.
As the issue seemed to relate to the nVidia DLL nvoglv64.dll, I tried running DDU to completely remove the installed nVidia drivers. Restarted and so far so good with the default Windows drivers. Installed the up to date nVidia drivers and that works great too. No crashes so far.
I can only assume that numerous driver upgrades have left incompatible remnants along the way. A clean slate install seems to have worked, so far.

Hi, I was super relieved to come across your thread here, as it perfectly describes the crashes I've been having too (and we seem to have nearly identical hardware specs...I have a Dell G5 5587 laptop).
I went through and completely uninstalled my nvidia drivers using DDU as you recommended. Before testing Character Animator again, I re-installed the nvidia drivers (currently "Creator Ready Drivers" version 419.67) since you said it worked fine for you.
Sadly, I'm still getting the exact same type of mysterious crashes when clicking on the "Rig" workspace button. The program just disappears with no popup or error message whatsoever.
Is it still working for you? Anyone else know of a permanent solution? Ch is currently unusable for me as it stands

Sorry for the late reply, I must have missed the email.
Yes, still working for me.

I use the drivers from Nvidia, not the ones from Dell.
On a potentially related note, not long after, I started seeing some real issues with the laptop, isolating it to some of the recent wifi drivers from Dell. They completely, but subtly, messed the whole system up, to the point I was ending up with BSOD, and had to do a factory restore to sort it. Uninstalling/altering/rollback/system restore just didn't sort it.
It just seemed to affect everything, crashes, frame rate losses, severe overheating, internet speed crippling, random shutdowns, etc. including gfx card operations, games would be less than a quarter of their normal framerate. So if you have updated your wifi drivers since March, it may be related.
Hope that helps.
