ColdFusion 2021 Update 22 causing error Cannot find implementation class coldfusion.tagext.mail.Mail

New Here ,
Oct 17, 2025 Oct 17, 2025

Recently we updated our Coldfusion 2021 server to update 22 and are now getting several errors with packages, we followed the instructions from this post  but still haven't been able to make it work.

First the mail package wasn't installed, we tried to install it via cfpm and Cf admin without success, later we discovered that there were missing dependencies which we manually uploaded to the repo folder, cleared felix cache, both manually and programatically, deleted cfclasses folder.

And finally we were able to install it but still having the same issue also we found out that even though postgresql is installed we get and error saying that the package is not suitable to make the connection and that we should use cfpm to install it,  another error we get is when we use the function Encrypt it gives and error, any advice will help a lot.

Jorge, we will be able to solve your problem. There are either of a couple possible scenarios.

1) Someone may suggest you stop cf, delete the cfusion/bin/felix-cache folder, then start again. Others reporting this error (in the title) have found that didn't solve it. But it's worth trying. If it doesn't help, let's proceed.

2) Does your cf instance have access to the internet? When you go the cf admin "package manager" page and click the "check for updates" button, does it respond immediately? If not, you may need to perform what the update technotes call the manual offline update process.

3) So did you do the update via that admin page or from the command line?

4) Either way, did you look at the update log (in cfusion/updates, in a folder for this update, in the log file with install in its name)? At the bottom, several lines up, it reports whether it detected package updates and then it attempts to download them. Do you see any error there?

5) When cf is started by the update process, it's THEN that Cf attempts to update the packages. Look at the coldfusion-out.log, at the time of that first startup after the update. You should see it first "uninstalling" the packages. Then you will see it starting packages (it never refers to updating or even re-installing the uninstalled ones).

The key question is whether you see errors on the attempt to START the packages?

6) If you attempted the manual offline update, where did you extract the zip to? And did you then change the neo_updates.xml (or cf admin) to point the packages url at that? Again, see the update technote for more. (Some people take an unfortunate shortcut which can also lead to errors related to packages.)

I'll wait to hear your replies before offering more. Perhaps my point 1 could well suffice for you.

We have done this many times over plus we have deleted cfclasses and purge cache from cfpm without success

2) Does your cf instance have access to the internet? When you go the cf admin "package manager" page and click the "check for updates" button, does it respond immediately? If not, you may need to perform what the update technotes call the manual offline update process.

We do have a proxy we have but when we go to the admin page the changes aren't saved

3) So did you do the update via that admin page or from the command line?

Command line

4) Either way, did you look at the update log (in cfusion/updates, in a folder for this update, in the log file with install in its name)? At the bottom, several lines up, it reports whether it detected package updates and then it attempts to download them. Do you see any error there?

We were missing some dependencies apparently the bundles repo was missing some libraries so we mannually copied them to the repo from the hotfix packages folder and we were able to install it, we are still having some errors in the coldfusion out log

Oct 17, 2025 13:07:04 PM Error [main] - Unable to install felixclassloader package: org.apache.http.client.ClientProtocolException O

Oct 17, 2025 13:34:45 PM Information [main] - com package will not be deployed as it is not installed.
Oct 17, 2025 13:34:45 PM Information [main] - odbc package will not be deployed as it is not installed.

And in the coldfusion error log we have these:

No suitable driver available for cnx_ComInt. The postgresql package is not installed. You can install the package through the CLI package manager (/sysx/coldfusion2021/cfusion/bin/cfpm.sh) by running the command : install postgresql.

We made a backup of the contents of the bundles folder and then we unzipped the contents of the hotfix to it, we set the packageurl and default one to the bundles folder

To your inability to save the proxy settings, that should certainly work. Do you have trouble changing any other settings? What about even on that page? Can you modify the packages url and does it save?

Indeed, your later indication that you point that at the bundles folder is a problem. You should point to the bundlesdependency.json in that folder.

If somehow you can't change the admin, change it in the neo_updates.xml and restart. Then try install or updating one package, either in the admin or using cfpm.

If it works, update them all. If it fails, when you say you extracted the zip into the bundles folder after bsckinfuirup, you do mean that you left what was there and added what was in the zip, right? Some people mistakenly RENAME the bundles THEN extract the zip into there. That leads to package update/uninstall errors.

Apparently the Coldfusion class path was pointing to {application.home}/bundles, but the bundles folder is outside the cfusion folder, so we pointed the class path to {application.home}/../bundles, reinstalled the packages and the mail problem is gone. We do still have some issues with the postgresql package as it is installed, it doesn't work we get the following error:

"No suitable driver available for cnx_ComInt. The postgresql package is not installed. You can install the package through the CLI package manager (/sysx/coldfusion2021/cfusion/bin/cfpm.sh) by running the command : install postgresql."

The coldfusion-out-log we are getting the following errors:

Error [main] - Unable to install felixclassloader package: org.apache.http.client.ClientProtocolException
[main] - com package will not be deployed as it is not installed.
Information [main] - odbc package will not be deployed as it is not installed.

I wonder, does the coldfusion bundles package should be inside the cfusion folder or within coldfusion2021 folder?

We are also having problems with cfr files, we are getting 500 internal errors but they don't tell much about what the problem is, could you point to what I can check, to find what the problem is?

1) First, the bundles folder should be in the cf folder (coldfusion2021, in your case), not the cfusion folder within that.

2) As for your saying "we pointed the class path to {application.home}/../bundles", that makes no sense to me. I don't find in my cf2021 config that the cf classpath points to bundles AT ALL, neither in the "java and jvm" page of the admin, nor the jvm.config file. Is there anything about your setup that would have you somehow with a non-standard setup? Are you running a normal "server" installation or did you use the "zip" install approach? What OS are you on?

3) As for the error you show about the com and odbc packages, do you really have need of them? The error may be simply saying you didn't install it (most have no need of them). I'll clarify (for anyone wondering) that the Postgres package does not depend on any other packages at all.

4) As for your cfr problems, have you confirmed that the report package is implemented?

5) With all that, even though you previously deleted the felix-cache folder "many times over", please try it now after the changes you made and got things close to working. It may take care of the remaining errors.

6) As for your proxy issue, you did not address my suggestion about that (the first point of my last reply). Again, getting this working may be more important than everything else, if it helps the normal admin update process to work without a lot of tweaking on your end.

I've numbered the points again this time to help. No need to quote them all, though. You can just number your answers. Trying to keep things simple for you and other readers.

And I realize all these update problems can be frustrating. I get the sense there may be some things you've done in trying to resolve things that may have exacerbated your issues. I'm just trying to help, as a fellow CF user (and troubleshooter), based on experience helping others here and elsewhere.

1) We noticed that Colfusion is not picking the jars from where it's supposed to, that's why I was asking this question

2) It does not make any sense to me either, we made a test and added {application.home}/../bundles/repo and the postgresql package started working fine now, we confirmed that the server is picking the bundles from somewhere else instead of coldfusion2021/bundles, maybe it's hf upates I'm not quite sure where, the neo_updates file is pointing to the right path.  The OS is Rhel 8 and the installation was done via zip install

3)Yeah, we wanted to see if it was related, before finding the solution, we made a test in our development server with a third party driver, we've placed that driver in the bundles folder and created a datasource, tested the connection and it worked fine, once we did the same in our production server it didn't work, it didn't find the driver, we came to the conclusion that it's picking jars from somewhere else.

4) We made some progress about it, we are getting the following error:

Report compilation error.
Error at line 4 char 198: net.sf.jasperreports.engine.xml.JasperDesignFactory

Knowing that the packages are pointing to a different path, we downgraded the package to 323925 and uninstalled the presentation package, we can't restart the server to see if it has resolved the error because it's a production environment, tonight we will see.

5) Yeah we've done that and it didn't work

6) We tried setting the proxy up in coldfusion admin but it doesn't save the changes, so we tried to update the neo_updates file manually but when we go back to the CF admin page it breaks.

Jorge, you're surely dealing with a lot. I don't know if anyone will be able to help purely via back and forth here. Great if they can.

But I'll say that if you want all those problems solved, I'm fairly confident that I'd be able to, in a shared desktop remote consulting session. I realize you may be in a position where you "can't pay for help". But if the problems remain unresolved, it would seem SOMEONE could be made to appreciate that paying for an hour or so of my help may be a pittance compared to continuing to suffer these problems. Your call, of course.

For more on my rates, approach, satisfaction guarantee, and online calendar, see carehart.org/consulting.

One way or another hope the problems get resolved for you.
