Scheduled Task intermittent issue (email delayed)

Hello,

We are running CF version 7,0,1,116466  and have just recently (within 2 months) experienced this problem.  Prior to this, it was running fine for years.

Webserver is running on virtual environment (WINDOWS 2003) - if it means anything.

Issue:

We have a scheduled task (runs daily at 9:00am) that calls a CF page which contains code to retrieve data, does calculations and sends an email with the results to the recipient.

The task executes successfully everyday (to verify, there is a code snippet on the page which inserts the datetime into a logging table).  The problem is sometimes the email is not sent out until later in the day or the next day, but eventually, it gets sent out.  Users expect to see the email in the morning, so this delay is not good.

-  We looked in the mailroot folder to see if the emails are queued up...but nothing is there.

-  We checked the mailsent.log file and the emails are not shown.  On the days that the email is not sent, we've checked the mail.log file to see if there are any errors, but none.

-  Obviously, emails cannot be found on mail server (MS-Exchange)

I'm not sure what else I can check...not sure why it works intermittently...please help.
