Authorization issues.

I have a couple problems, they seem to be cascading.  Should have taken screen shots, but alas.

Story:

Bought a book and downloaded it.  Went to read it and got:   Unable to open <Book> Errors were encountered in this item.  It was exactly this thread: Errors were encountered in this item

Followed through the thread, Copying permissions were allowed, in fact everything was allowed.  Farther down it said to move the book and try again.  No luck.

Tried to deactivate/reactivate the computer.  Did that...almost.  Now I can not reactivate because i get this error: "You can only authorize this computer with an Adobe ID that hasn't been previously used to authorize any other computer or mobile devices. Please try again."

Went to the help chat person (download/installing software button).  Told them it was digital editions, they sent me here [ https://helpx.adobe.com/in/support/digital-editions.html ], when I said it wasn't useful told me to follow through and gave them the above error message the reply was:

I see.

We do not support Adobe Digital Editions here.Please contact here, our experts are sitting over here to help you out.

So here I am without ANY digital editions because apparently I will not be able to access any of my old stuff with a new ID.
