Keep getting told incorrect ID/password

I'm trying to authorise ADE on my laptop (as per instructions from Kobo to try to unlock some books).

 

I already have an Adobe account. I've installed ADE fine, I can open it. I then select "authorise computer" from the Help menu. I leave 'Adobe ID' as my ebook vendor. I enter my Adobe ID and the matching password (which I literally have just used successfully to log on here!) and click "authorise". 

I get the red-print message "Incorrect login ID or password for the selected ebook vendor. Please try again."

 

Can anyone help? The bot on the chat just directed me to the "errors logging in page", the woman I got when I said that hadn't helped just directed me to the exact set of "authorise ADE" instructions I've already used 10 times and then when I said I'd done all that she directed me here!

 

Hope there's a solution to this!
