This is soooo... awfully frustrating. Can't this actually be solved without workarounds (that don't appear to work)?!
I went through the following steps:
UNFORTUNATELY, it did not work. I can read the books on the ADE app on my PC. BUT the eReader (Kobo Aura) still reports it as not authorized.
SO FRUSTRATING AND ANNOYING!
I know, shouting. But this is not the first time it has happened. Solutions? Real solutions?

Same issue. I waste hours on testing answers from this community.
- I reinstall/resync all my accounts (all with the same email) including my Kobo account. Deauthorized/Reauthorized like a million times.
- Returned the books and reserved then again
- I even went in the registery (as told in a old 2017 message) to erase my account.
I'm trying to find another platform than ADE to get my library book on my Kobo now.

Same issue here. The weird thing is that I usually download my library ebooks directly in the Kobo ereader under the "view your public library holds" but sometimes a library book is available in my library account but when I view my library holds from my Kobo reader. So I tried to download it through ADE and then transfer to my Kobo and that's when I encounter this problem that my device is not authorized. I followed all the same steps you outlined multiple times and it does not work.

Exactly the same issue, with the same attempts (deleting, reinstalling... etc).
I noted that I encounter this problem only when renting an ebook from a library, but NOT when downloading a bought one.
I have ADE 4.5.11.
Will anybody answer to this problem?

I furmly believe that Adobe Digital Edition 4.5.11 is garbage!!!!
No one has been able to help me with any part of it.
