After a fatal HDD crash and rebuild, my ADE was working fine but now it's not. I purchased a book from Google, it starts to download to ADE then I get the ADE message "Error Getting License. License Server Communication Problem. E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_OPEN_ERROR. Can anyone help? I've re-booted and re-authorized with no success. My wife is all over me to get this fixed so she can read the book. Thanks.
FYI: ADE 4.0.3 Windows 7x64

Hi Shreya. I tried the download from Google again this morning with the same result. Same error message then ADE crashes.
So you think this error results from an open or corrupt borrowed book in my library?
Thanks for trying.

Is it the case where you were able to open the same book previously ??

My ADE was fine until I downloaded the new Windows 10, it was so horrible I switched back to 8.1 2 days later. Now I'm getting the message
Error Getting Licence. License Server Communication Problem. E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_OPEN_ERROR

I was unable to download the book so I couldn't open it. However, I've been doing some experimenting and have finally got the book downloaded to ADE with some challenges. Here's what happened.
Prior to my HDD crash my Digial Editions library was on C:drive. When I restored my lost data it put it back on the C:drive. I copied it with all my other data to the new My Document on F:drive, pointed my existing My Documents to the F:drive.and re-installed ADE. It worked but VERY VERY slow loading. (4 minutes and not the only program to slow down. I checked drive share and everything should work well but it doesn't). Fine, I then pointed My Documents back to the C:drive and the original ADE library. Voila! It loads right away like it used to but now I get the open document error. This morning I redirected My Documents back to the F:drive which is where it was when I set up ADE. It again took many minutes to load but then allowed me to download the book.
So I guess the real questions is this: How can I move my ADE 4.0.3 library from the F:drive back to the C:drive without getting this kind of error? In absence of any better suggestion I'm going to uninstall ADE, point My Documents back to the C:drive which contains the original restored ADE library and re-install ADE. Do you think that makes sense?
Thanks for your help.

I get the exact same error on Win 10, ADE4.0.3. Was working fine till yesterday in Win 10. This software with its cryptic error messages and no help/troubleshooting is not very good, unfortunately.

I had the same problem, but only after updating to Windows 10. The problem is solved if you authorized all users to have full control of the program (ADE) and or the book downloaded file. You do this by clicking the "File Explorer" icon, the "Local Disk (C)", "Program Files", 'Adobe", right click "Adobe Digital editions", "Security" tab, "Edit", and then authorizing all users to "Full Control" by clicking under the 'Allow" column., and then finally click "OK". You could also need to do th same with the book download file.

Trying pictrees Aug 2015 solution. results in this error:
" An error occurred while applying security information
C\Program Files (x86)\adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\R...\CMap
Failed to enumerate objects on the container. Access is denied. "
I have manufacturers installed Win 10 on a commonly sold Lenovo laptop. I have no fatal crashes, reloads or major issues.
I am getting a little frustrated. All I want to do is download a library book!
