Transfer Ebook from adobe digital editions to an ereader?

I have the files saved as a pdf file, when I try to add the book into an ereader program, it says file is not supported. Can you recommend an app for an ereader so that I can hear the books read aloud?

Please be more specific:

• Which e-Reader are you attempting to use?
• And on which device -- iOS, Android, other...? 

That will determine which file type you need.
