Adobe Digital Editions 4.5 will not open any more

Since some time my ADE 4.5 will not open. It appears on the taskbar, and putting my cursor on it I get a picture of it as it it should look if fully opened, but when clicking on it nothing happens; the program does not come up on the screen. Since several months back I am running Windows 10 and have installed all offered updates, but I don't think that is what is causing the problem, which has only started recently. Or could it perhaps have been caused by a recent Windows 10 update?

You didn't mention whether you tried renaming (or deleting) the "My Digital Editions" folder and re-launching version 4.5.

As for "another Ebook reader", it depends on the type of e-book and the source where you got it from, e.g. Amazon Kindle? Public library?

I gave up trying to use the ADE software after months of trouble. I now
have a Kobo Clara HD eReader which has the Overdrive software built into
it. With this eReader I do not need to use the ADE software at all. I can
buy books from Kobo or borrow books from the library working directly with
my eReader. I am so much happier now, working with Overdrive instead of
ADE.

Hello,

I have digital addition 4.5.10 on iconia acer android tablet for a few month now.  Was working all right.

Suddenly, the new books (downloaded on pc and transferred to android) are not in the library anymore.  when android tablet  is connected to pc, I could see: they are there.  but they disappear when I open ade on tablet.

or if I downloaded more than 2 books, ade doesn't open at all.  after I delete new additions, ade opens again.  How to fix that?

I have finally found solution:

1) Delete: My Digital Editions folder localed in Documents

2) Reinstall Digital Editions 4.5

3) Open software and you will see that is not showing window, I've noticed that is minimized, so make click in Digital Editions button (taskbar) and press in your keyboard Alt + (Spacebar), you'll see an option to RESTORE, press letter that is underlined and Digital Editions 4.5 should display in your screen again.

How about if it is not opening what so ever? I opened the program once, then I open my computer and my windows 10 updated and the digital edition stopped opening what so ever. I even tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it and nothing.

hi, i had the same problem.I just uninstalled ADE and reinstalled it but in a different directory (instead of C:\ i installed it in D:\) and boom it started working again! Hope it helps!

I did the unins,tall and reinstall in drive D;  and I still have the same problem.  After a Windows 10 update in Feb the Adobe Digital Editions just stopped opening.  The icon is there but it never gets past a tease stage.  I have been using it as long as I've had the HP laptop, and there are about 800 books there.  A lot of short stories from Science Fiction pulp magazines that are no loss, but a lot of other stuff I like.  I can get stuff from Project Gutenberg with Calibre and Icecream, but the library eloans have to be to ADE.

I have a program that can copnvert all the books that have ever opened in ADE. Epubsoft Toolbox. I jusxt drop the files in from the mydiogitaleditions directory and convert to Acrobat or several other formats. Once ADE has opened it the file can be converted.

You will need a USB or any hard drives there, and if you see the message where will the file will be you will press "browse" just next to the file location name then you will place the file anywhere in the USB

If you succesfully did it you will be able to access adobe

How do you install it in D drive? I am having this problem too and I'm not sure that I understand how to save it there.

I just want to thank you for your tip about installing ADE on the D drive instead of the C drive because it worked like a charm !! I have been trying to fix this problem for quite awhile and nothing else worked !  I have an old laptop and it doesn't have a D hard drive but I attached my external hard drive to my pc ( E:/ )  and installed it there and it worked !!
