Activation issue

New Here ,
Jan 22, 2023 Jan 22, 2023

I have a very old copy of Dreamweaver.  I need to reinstall on my computer.  The activation code was accepted as correct.  However, there was a problem with the internet switched to telephone activation.  When I called the number provided I got a msg. saying that number was no longer valid.  How do I obtain a current phone number for activation?

If you have a copy of Dreamweaver which is less than CS5 then all the activation servers below that version of creative suite have been switched off l believe, although some stand alone versions, purchased outside of the creative suite package, may still work.

What is CS5?
By @Andy28056570t3aj

Creative Suite................this usually includes other Adobe programs as part of a package rather than programs which you purchase singularly which are still named CS3, CS4, CS5 etc

The programs which were part of a CS package up to CS5 have had their activation servers switched off, some singular programs purchased outside of a package may still work

yes, there were three other programs on the disk which I never used.  Do I have any options, other than purchasing a new Dreamweaver?

You don't.  Activation Services for CS4 and earlier products is not possible. The servers don't exist anymore.

You don't say which product and version you have but if it's older than 10 years, you shouldn't be using it anyway.  The Internet, browsers and devices people use have changed too much.  Do yourself a favor and get modern software that understand current web standards.

Read chapters, do code exercises and take quizzes at the end.

This does help, thank you. If I buy a current version of Dreamweaver, will
it be compatible with a website I have built with my current older version?

It should be compatible, assuming the site contains valid HTML and CSS code.  You can validate the code in your current site for more details. See below.

CSS  https://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

If Dreamweaver is the only Adobe product that you use, then I would suggest purchasing a code editor that is more up-to-date than Dreamweaver. Ever since 2012, Dreamweaver has gone on a downward spiral.

Of the list that @Nancy OShea has shown, I have chosen both of these:

-- Visual Studio Code (free) - https://code.visualstudio.com/
-- Wappler ~ Visual Web App Builder - https://wappler.io/

Wappler is the DMXzone-made Dreamweaver replacement and includes the best of their powerful extensions, as well as much more!

If you want to post a link to the site, we can help evaluate it for you. But the short answer as explained is that it is just code. But given that the version is so old it cannot be activated the code is most likely not mobile friendly, could just be tables or worse, frames. So I would say before you go out and buy the new version of DW, consider whether you want to invest the time to work with modern code infrastructure or whether you would prefer to go with a hosted solution like a Wix, etc.

I don't know how much coding skill you have but using a code editor (any code editor) requires skills that most amateurs don't have.  Software doesn't create great sites, people do.  If you have the skills for it, great!  If you don't, the learning curve may be steeper than you think.

Also it comes down to cost vs reward.  If your business & likelihood depends on your website, then sure, buying new software is a business investment most of which can be deducted.   But a hobby/vanity site might not be worth the financial investment.  Moving your content to an online site builder like Wix or WordPress might be the most affordable option for future proofing your project.

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck.
