ASP.NET Development on CS3 Mac

New Here ,
May 10, 2007 May 10, 2007
Currently I develop ASP.NET web sites using DW8 on WinXP.

My web server runs on Windows Server 2003, IIS, Microsoft SQL Server 2000.

I'm all set to buy CS3, but I'm considering which platform to run it on.

I'd like to run CS3 on my new(ish) Mac, but I'm wondering if there are issues with ASP.NET development on MacOS X?

For instance, can I use the Mac as a testing server, or will I have to set up my old PC to be my testing server?

The latter is true. You'll need to set up your old PC as the testing
server. Either that or have Windows running in a VM (presuming you have an
Intel Mac) and use that. No problems actually developing the .NET apps with
DW/Mac. .NET apps need to be hosted from a Windows machine however (with a
few exceptions outside the scope of this discussion).

That being said, those that are developing "serious" (for lack of a better
term) .NET apps don't have anything nice to say about DW's ability to author
them.

Best regards,
Chris

The only IDE that supports ASP.net 2.0 is MS's own. Visual Studio is the
main option for most folks.

No.

If you're going to be a MS developer, you need to be a MS user,
unfortunately.

I do mostly ASP.net work myself. I love my Mac. But, I had to by Parallels
and install Windows on it to do anything on my Mac with ASP.net.

I would not try and develop ASP.net apps with DW at all. Either go with
Visual Studio to do ASP.net work, or stick with DW but switch to PHP or the
like.
