Can't Apply Styles

Explorer ,
Jun 19, 2017 Jun 19, 2017

Moved to DW 2017 CC and it is a challenge.

Can't apply styles to my images.

I have the following link in every page:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" title="CSS" href="../styles/father.css" media="screen" />

When I attempt to use the menu to apply a style,  the drop box says I have two options:  Make a new style or Attach a style sheet?

I tried attaching but nothing happens???

I tried the PROPERTIES panel I I do not see the styles in the father.css style sheet...

VERY VERY frustrating as I use them all the time... Or did!

Hi Jon (and all other contributors),

I request using these documents for installing previous versions because the blog posts usually don't get updated as frequently.

Previous versions uninstalling when installing CC 2015 applications

Download and install Creative Cloud apps

Thanks,

Have you defined your site correctly from with DW's Site > Manage Sites menu option?

Many of DW's features won't work if the site is not, or improperly, defined.

Have you restated the machine since installing the update?

If you have and you're 100% sure the link to your css file is correct, but the classes still aren't showing up in the menu, it might be worth turning on your OS's hidden files so you can clear the program cache...

Deleting a corrupted cache file

...that and possibly Restoring Preferences tend to take care of unusual, just started happening style behaviors in DW.

So, I have another iMac.  I had mu sites on it for a while after #1 iMac was in the shop.  I "upgraded" to the latest DW CC on it and it also cannot apply styles to images....  It was working before the last DW CC "upgrade"....

Therefore I conclude the latest DW CC release has a bug... Pretty serious bug as I cannot apply styles?

This is the first post I've seen about not being able to add classes on a Mac in the user to user forum. It's also not showing up in the first page or two of DW's official bug report forum...

Adobe Dreamweaver: Bugs: Hot (514 ideas) – Adobe Dreamweaver CC: Feature Ideas

It's possible there's a bug, and there's just so few people using it on a Mac that it's not being complained about in either location, it's not likely, but it's possible.

Have you tried clearing the cache or preferences yet?

Not sure what you mean by "clearing the cache or preferences"

I can apply the classes IF I USE THE PROPERTIES PANEL....  But if I right click with cursor on an image and go to CSS Styles I do not see any styles.... Just option to add a new one or attach a style sheet....

In my reply from about an hour ago, I gave two links. One link gave information on clearing DW's cache file/personal configuration folder, the other discusses restoring the program's preference.

Both are go-to general troubleshooting steps that very often clear up unusual/buggy behavior in the program, especially after updates have been run.

Are you working with valid code?

Over the years, many of the functions in DW have come to rely on completely error free html and css to work correctly. Make sure you don't have any structural defects in your html or css by visiting the validators below to get a listing of issues...

CSS: The W3C CSS Validation Service

HTML: Ready to check - Nu Html Checker

Even little things like misplaced or missing semicolons or quote marks can make DW choke.

Are you using nested @rules such as @support or @viewport, especially if the have nested or are being nested in media-query rules?

Until there's some official word from Adobe on a bug, or someone provides more troubleshooting options, you could always drop back to an older version that worked correctly for you.

As a paid subscriber, you have access to every CC version of the program. All 5 can be installed on the same machines at the same time through a single subscription, they just won't run at the same time. When installing newer versions, make sure to click the Advanced Options link in the installer dialogue so you can uncheck the Remove Older Versions option. That way you can test the "latest" without being left in the lurch if there's a major issue with it.

Here's how you get older versions through the CC Desktop App...
