Hi all. I have a old school request for old old software, but it's for a hobby project of my Grandad and his friend.
They still use Contribute to maintain a website and are quite happy with it, but I've just moved hosting and now can't connect to SFTP nor administer the site from Dreamweaver. I can connect to the server in Dreamweaver without issue, but Contribute gives me problems with the wizard.
Could anyone tell me what settings I might have to change in Contribute to make it work, or how to create a contribute key (or edit the old one?!) so that I can update the details. I noticed in Contribute it doesn't have the option to specify port (I need it to be 22) so not sure if this is the issue. But it just says cannot connect instantly, so it doesn't really try for long (this is in Contribute when manually inputting the server details through the connection wizard).
I tried the 'administer site in Contribute' button but it doesn't do anything, even with Contribute installed. It used to! Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

This might be an issue with Contribute and SFTP. The default port of SFTP is 22 so that should not be an issue. I was able to find this article about modifying contribute to support SFTP connections.
Short of that, can you give them FTP access or FTPS access instead of SFTP access and see if that also works? Being that this site is just a hobby and is not complex, you may be able to get away with that despite security vulnerabilities in potentially using the insecure connection.

Last released in 2012, Contribute is dead. There are no updates or support for discontinued products. That's not a winning combination on the web which is constantly changing.
If Dreamweaver is beyond the users' abilities, I recommend moving the site to another CMS platform like WordPress. There is zero activity in the Contribute forum these days because nobody uses Contribute anymore.
