Cannot edit text

Cannot edit text in LIVE or SPLIT mode, only in HTML mode. When I try to insert text it just jumps to the bottom of the page????

Are you working within a child page spawned from a Dreamweaver Template (.dwt) file?  If yes, only text within an editable region can be edited.  Everything else is locked or grayed out.  

To edit text outside an editable region, switch to the main Template.dwt file. Save changes and populate them to child pages based on that template.   Upload all child pages to your remote server.

Figured it out. In Dreamweaver I had clicked LIVE to see the actual page, but I had to click off that into DESIGN to enter text. BUT, it also did not work in SPLIT VIEW so something is quite wrong with the program. I also eventually entered my text using HTML...

I can add/edit text in Code | Split | Design/Live view, without any trouble.
