Question

Coursebuilder not installing

I have a serious problem with installing the Coursebuilder extension for Dreamweaver 8. The problem might be that I have Dreamweaver CS3...?
When trying to install I get the message:
"The file 'C:\Program Files\Adobe Dreamweaver CS3\Coursebuilder\Help\Show_Me\Data_Tracking\data_tracking_quiz.asp' is being used by Dreamweaver CS3. Please close the Dreamweaver CS3 and try again."
Well, Dreamweaver is already closed and there isn't such a file anywhere on the computer, so it's a bit difficult to shut it down :-)

Can anyone please help me - I have dozens of courses created in Dreamweaver and Coursebuilder that I have to make revisions on ASAP!

I have also posted this on the Rapid Intake forum but haven't heard anything yet - I also read on their homepage that Adobe has taken over Coursebuilder again... Does that meen that an update might be on the way? I hope so... 😉

Best regards,
Åse Ghasemi

The Adobe eLearning Suite includes the updated Coursebuilder extension for DW CS4.

Well, that's very good - if I was going to upgrade to CS4 - which I'm not... Does anyone know if there are any changes in the new CB extension? Or is it just a newer version of the old one?

Really? First I've heard of it. I asked Rapid Intake when DW CS3 first
came out if there would be an updated Coursebuilder for CS3 and they said
there would be .. but I never saw where it came out. At the time, I used
Coursebuilder quite a bit. I have switched over to Captivate tho .. once you
get past the "one slide per question" restriction, it's a pretty cool
program ... other than the lack of database insertion.

I am working on Vista and I am logged on as administrator. I didn't know about running Extension Manager as administrator, but I just tried it and it didn't help :-(
I had another pc which unfortunately just died, running xp with Dreamweaver CS3. I remember having somewhat the same problem installing CB, but unfortunately I can't remember what I did to install it then... Because I know it was working on that.
I guess I'll have to bring up my very old and very very slow laptop that still has Dreamweaver MX on it :-(

Somone on the Rapid Intake Forum finally gave me the solution on how to install CB8 in DWCS3 on a Vista platform:

"Goto:
Control Panel> User Accounts and Family Safety> User Accounts
Then click “Turn User Account On or Off”
Restart Computer
Install Extension
After installing I recommend turning the UAC back on for security reasons."

This worked brilliantly for me to ;-)
However, it still would be nice with a new update...

I would like to give a BIG thanks to fosgha for posting this solution!

I was in exactly the same boat (installing my old Studio 8 on a new Win7Pro machine) and I was going out of my mind trying to figure out how to get Coursebuilder up and running. The suggested solution (turning off UAC or, in my case, pulling its slider down to minimum, then rebooting) did the trick in an instant. I wish all my problems got solved this easy...;^)

If you are installing on Vista it may be that you have to be logged in as the system Administrator user, and then specifically open Extension Manager to run as Administrator (right click on the Extension Manager icon and select Run as Administrator).
