Does Dreamweaver CS3 has any improement in server-side application development?

Hi:
I learnt about DW from DW 3.0 and used it from DW4 in all my applications. From Ultradev it had great server-side application development tools. I went to the New Features part but found no new server-side application features for DW CS3 which is officially the first adobe's DW.
I wonder I am wrong or there is no new feature in this field in the CS3 version.
Thanks

Benign,

Perhaps that you went ahead by having wildest, overly second-guess without knowing the real facts whether if Dreamweaver CS3 supports server-side capacity or not.

So, I have a real quick question for you, Benign. Where did you get this impression or idea that Adobe is dropping server-side app capacity in Dreamweaver CS3? How did you know that it is the case? Have you see it physically and have had the opportunity to have hands-on around Dreamweaver CS3 yourself, no? I assume that it is obviously not possible at this time.

Perhaps that you hold your prompt judgement or anger or hold your accusation that Adobe drop this capacity. Perhaps that you ought to wait until Dreamweaver CS3 is being officially released in retail market, and if you are overly concerned about if Dreamweaver CS3's server-side capacity has been dropped -- then perhaps that you want to test-drive and see it for yourself before making a judgement **without** knowing the real facts. Once you see or know the facts, then you can decide based on what you know.

I am concerned that your statement is being misled and led other people into wrong impression about this issue. Let's sit tight and hold your breath until appropriate time. Only time will tell.

Hope that helps.

[post script: Once Dreamweaver CS3, the product itself is being officially shipped -- either online or through air/ground shipping from Adobe store, or any authorized Adobe reseller stores -- at that time, you would be able to download and test drive and evaluate whether if Dreamweaver CS3 have the capacity or not.]

WOW! I never said that Adobe GAVE UP server-side tools. I just said that in the new features parts of adobe.com I saw no new server-side options. That's it. As you remember in every upgrade from ultradev we had some new feature (plus the design or CSS) in server side options. Like support better support for PHP in DW2004.
Adobe bought INTERAKT and I thought maybe all the options in INTERAKT extensions can be considerd in CS3 version.
I accep that some of ajax tools in new version of CS3 look very cool but I was expecting a huge new features collection of server-side tools in this version.
That's it. I do not want mislead someone or something like that. All I am saying is : I HOPE THERE WILL MORE NEW FEATURES THAN WHAT THEY PUT IN THE WEBSITE. That's it.
I hope nobody gets misled. I love DW no matter what.
Thanks

I wonder if you have ever told Adobe what new features you would like to
see in Dreamweaver? The feature request form is an open invitation to
tell the development team what's important to you.

Dude...why are you being so hostile?

It's just interesting that Adobe would not mention anything about
server-side coding as part of their announcement of CS3. Sure, we have to
wait till it's out but why not mention anything about it like they did for
other new features.

I think you have just answered your own question. The Adobe announcement
concentrated on new features.

It would sure be sad to think that Dreamweaver CS3 does not have at least
one new feature when it comes to server-side coding especially after
purchasing Interakt which has some amazing tools that were light years
beyond the tools that Dreamweaver came with.

But then again this is all SPECULATION as I am sure someone will point out.
:-)

Well, it *is* speculation, but the development of a new version of
software takes about 18 months. InterAKT was acquired in September, very
late in the development cycle. I'm sure there will be news from Adobe
Systems Romania, as it's now called, in the not too distant future, but
I've no idea when.

In the meantime, concentrate on the features that have been announced.
They are very impressive.

David,

Will all due respect, your comment "In the meantime, concentrate on the
features that have been announced." is ridiculous. How can someone
concentrate only on one part of the program and just cross their fingers on
the other part?

Adobe sure went out of their way to hype Dreamweaver as a design tool and
totally ignore the coding part.

Does it not sound at all strange to you that they did that?

Pizza Good:
I hope you are wrong. If this happens to DWCS3 then we all web app developers loose our hope for a great tool that helped us alot. I really believe that sometimes for smaller web sites DW8 does at least 70% of work automaticly witj great options and I need just to do the 30% code editing (I mean for development not design.)
I am impatiently wait for DWCS3 to see if you are wrong and we all are wrong.

<sigh>

Please - get real....

If you don't see it announced, it's either not there, or it's there and it
... well ... didn't get announced. I'm not sure what else you are
expecting.

If these are all the great new features for the next Dreamweaver that Adobe
wants us to go "wow" over:
a.. Spry framework for Ajax
b.. Spry data
c.. Spry widgets
d.. Spry effects
e.. Adobe Photoshop® and Fireworks® integration
a.. Browser Compatibility Check
b.. CSS Advisor website
c.. CSS layouts
d.. CSS management
e.. Adobe Device Central CS3
Well, I'm definately not impressed.

Oh guys, I was expecting some changes and more energy on this (CS3) version about DESIGN, but nothing about coding means several STEPS BACK to DW4.

Everybody has their own priorities. I work daily with Dreamweaver and
PHP. I believe there is a lot to be impressed with in CS3. However, the
trial versions are expected to be available in May or June. Try it out
then. See if it floats your boat. If it doesn't, submit enhancement
requests to the development team. Tell them what you would like to see
in the next version.

Unless Adobe puts out an official statement, any talk about the removal
of server-side functionality is nothing more than ill-informed
speculation. I am fully confident that *no* such statement will be
forthcoming regarding Dreamweaver CS3.

This is on the abode site under Dreamweaver CS3 features

Support for leading technologies
Take advantage of support for leading web development technologies,
including HTML, XHTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, Ajax, PHP, Adobe ColdFusion®,
ASP, ASP.NET, and JSP.

So there is no question that anything has been removed. Furthermore the
introduction of spry which is based on XML adds tremendious server
capability as all you need to have a simple page that will output XML and
you are away. I would also expect that someone will come up with an
extension that will create XML from standard DW recordsets
