Question

Does Dreamweaver CS3 has any improement in server-side application development?

Hi:
I learnt about DW from DW 3.0 and used it from DW4 in all my applications. From Ultradev it had great server-side application development tools. I went to the New Features part but found no new server-side application features for DW CS3 which is officially the first adobe's DW.
I wonder I am wrong or there is no new feature in this field in the CS3 version.
Thanks
Benign

Yes. That will be covered. I plan to do a chapter showing how to use a
Spry data set. The XML will be generated on the fly from a MySQL database.

Hi all,

I am upgrading for the introduction of spry in Dreamweaver, and hopefully fireworks will be able to handle Photoshop layers. I use Dreamweaver daily for development in ASP. Dreamweaver is alright for coding ASP, and great for PHP. Also use dreamweaver for editing XSL files daily. I look forward to developing spry solutions for work.

David Powers, Just completed your last book and can not wait for the next book. Is there anything in the book on pulling XML out of MySQL for a CMS system.

In one of those threads, Cristinel gives details of the planned upgrade.
AFAIK, owners of the latest version will get a free upgrade. Owners of
older versions will get an upgrade price of 50%.

Hopefully Adobe offers an upgrade deal for those that have the latest
InterAKT Collection.

No problem. You may also want to take a look at the thread started by
Steve Fleischer entitled "News regarding Dreamweaver CS3 and Interakt".

It points to a couple of threads on the InterAKT forum, in which
Cristinel Anastasoaie of Adobe Romania Systems officially confirms that
a new version of Kollection (under a new name) will be released by Adobe
around the time of Dreamweaver CS3. Cristinel also confirmed that no
features of Kollection have been built into Dreamweaver CS3. He
explained that this was "because the InterAKT acquisition came in the
middle of Dreamweaver development cycle. Moreover, even if some features
will be included in future versions, it is highly unlikely that they
will be included as is."

I have known this for some time, but was not in a position to say
anything about it. However, it has now been officially confirmed by Adobe.

Perhaps you should read it again more carefully. I didn't write the
blurb; my publisher did. However, it does mention using CS3's PHP server
behaviors.

My publisher, like Adobe, concentrates on the new features. But if you
look at the Adobe site, it says quite categorically "Open server and
technology support: Take advantage of support for leading web
development technologies, including HTML, XHTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript,
Ajax, PHP, Adobe® ColdFusion®, ASP, ASP.NET, and JSP."

http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/features/allfeatures/

That's fact, not speculation.

It doesn't look like your book will be covering server-side coding, at least
that is what you get when you read the page you linked to. It looks like you
are covering everything Adobe talked about for the launch.

You're entitled to think that. On the other hand, this isn't speculation:

Fifteen chapters of the book have already been written. Unfortunately, I
can't go into detail until after the release of CS3.

Very funny. Laughed when I read it. Just wish they'd include your new book in with the next version :-)

quote:

"You're entitled to think that. On the other hand, this isn't speculation:

http://www.friendsofed.com/book.html?isbn=1590598598

Fifteen chapters of the book have already been written. Unfortunately, I
can't go into detail until after the release of CS3.
