Dreamwaever Template Question

I am new to Dreamweaver. I just took a job, where I am responsible to maintaining an institute's website. I have absolutely no experience with website design, and I only received a bare bones overview on how to update/edit the website. I apologize in advance if this is a simple fix. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on how to fix the problem?

I am using CS5.

My issue is that on our website, the template does not load properly. Here is the website: Welcome to the Institute for Mesoamerican Studies . However, in Dreamweaver itself, the template is all there.

    You're not working in a defined local site folder because all assets are pointing to files on your local C drive.

    file:///C|/Users/cs469948/Desktop/Local Mesoamerican/index.html

    When working with Dreamweaver, it's critical to have a local site folder for your projects  Example, C:\Mesoamerican\

    You can create one by going to Site > New Site.  See screenshots.

    Your Files Panel should look something like this.  The Templates folder contains your .dwt file(s) and nothing more.

    Thank you for your help. I haven't been able to fix the issue yet because my boss "put" the entire website online, and it has been "putting" the files from the remote server for four days now. I have been hoping that it will finish its task, so I can see if what he did fixed the problem. I am doubting that what he did fixed the problem. As soon as it finishes its tasks, I will be sure to try out your suggestions. Thank you again for your help, and I apologize that it is taking so long for me to respond. We have an old computer and terrible internet connection in the office I work in.

    A Properly formed Template.dwt file should resemble the basic structure.  Notice the link path to the external CSS file.   All template assets should follow a similar path.  ../folder/filename.ext

    Thank you for your help. I created a new root folder, and I repopulated the folder in dreamweaver from the remote server. However, now, when I go to look at the code for the template, it still is pulling files from the folder that is on the desktop. Do you know how to have it pull the files from the newly created root folder?

    Open your Template.dwt file and use Find & Replace in Current Document to remove all unwanted characters from your link paths.  

    Find: file:///C|/Users/cs469948/Desktop/Local Mesoamerican/

    Replace: ../

    Save Template and populate changes to child pages.   Preview child pages in your browsers to ensure everything is working as it should.
