Whenever I change sites in my files panel Dreamweaver crashes and shuts down. No error message or anything. Just soon as I select a different site it shuts down instantly.

Any ideas?

On a Mac .....

Thank you, Nancy. This seems to have corrected the issue but it did wipe out all my installed extensions. At least I can switch projects now it seems. Thanks again.

Hi Brad,

In addition to Nancy's suggestion, have you made sure there are no special characters in your folder paths?

Brad, has there been an update of the OS recently? I ask this because there seems to be an increased number of complaints coming from Mac users.

Thanks guys, it's been happening off and on for about a year but now it happens about 90% of the time. I will try Nancy's suggestion.

Great to see some familiar names still here in the DW forums 🙂

I know it's been a while since you posted, but I've been plagued by the same problem over the years. My solution is to open the "site manager" click on the site you're going to and then click OK. This should get you there.

Hi @BenPleysier ,

Yes, been with Wappler since day one of Beta. Sadly haven't touched DW in a few years now. Glad to see the ACP program still running. I miss the Adobe family.

I feeled compelled to chime in here... and I hate to introduce myself by whining. However, after 20 years of using DW (yes, even Macromedia days)... this still happen to me regularly on otherwise very stable, clean, modern Macs. It is absolutely infuriating and I submit a bug report every time with appropriate negative feedback.

I'm sorry but "Restoring Preferences" is a band-aid solution! My preferences are there for a reason! The problem needs to be fixed at the code-level... not push the problem to the user.

It's clear to me the Adobe puts minimum effort into improving this program and I've finally started taking my colleagues' advice to start looking elsewhere for a site editor that integrates FTP directly. Given the number of decent code/text-editors out there now, the integrated FTP is probably the only reason that I continue to use DW. This and the fact that it's simply included in a full CC subscription as I use several other programs. I honestly expect Adobe to completely drop DW in the near future anyway as it's not a featured package (ie. you can't subscrbe to it as a standalone App, it only comes bundled with other subscriptions).

Thanks for hearing me out and good luck with this maddening issue that has persisted through several generations of DW revisions.

You might want to investigate Wappler as an alternative. Has built in FTP to multiple targets.

While DW is now officially "minimally maintained" (not getting any new features or bug fixes) and I agree, the only real reason to continue using it at this point is if you consider it the freebie web app in your full CC subscription, you can still get it as a single-app subscription to it as shown here for $20.99 USD on Adobe's site...

JonFritzII_1-1645632753271.png

...not that I would ever suggest a single app subscription to any of Adobe's products (you get so much more bang for the buck in a full subscription).

It would be nice for Adobe to give DW a reduced, single-app subscription cost, now that it's officially the redheaded stepchild kept under the stairs when company is over...

I always say, don't put all your eggs in one basket.  For years, I've used other tools alongside Dreamweaver.

FileZilla is my favorite free SFTP client.

100% exactly this. This is the long tail of what many of us screamed about when Adobe bought out Macromedia. The first real casualty was Fireworks. There is STILL no real alternative. Adobe's position was that how people use and create graphics has changed. Well good luck producing a well optimized web graphic now. There was never any solution for supporting layer PNGs. If you want to do everything you were doing with Fireworks you need to use a minimum of 2 other Adobe programs, and God help you if you want to try and really do a tight job of optimizing graphics that need to be pixel perfect.

This crashing with the file manager has been a problem FOREVER. Clearing out preferences is a major problem, and you are literally taking time away from us that we can't get back or paid for. It is painfully obvious that Adobe caters to some idealized version of people using their products to cater to an idealized version of a client. It is painfully obvious that nobody at Adobe knows the pain involved in having to deal with clients. For those of us in the trenches, solving real world problems with actual people below high end agency levels, we need stuff to be reliable.

@bluecardigan,

Setting aside for a moment that this is a 3 year old topic, I don't share your enthusiasm for FW which was discontinued in 2012.  It's painfully out of touch with what we now regard as modern best practices such as interactive SVGs, WebP lossless images,  progressive web apps and responsive image output in 1x, 2x, 3x image sizes.   There are plenty of modern graphics tools that outperform FW in every way.  That said, this is the DW forum, not the FW forum which can be found here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/fireworks/ct-p/ct-fireworks

With respect to frequent crashes in DW,  that's not my experience now or previously.  DW CC performs reliably on my aging Win 10 workstation.  Maybe my workflow is different from yours.  Or perhaps I have a more stable system, I don't know.  Frequent crashes are not expected behavior though.  I suspect something else is going on.  Please contact Adobe support for assistance.
