Dreamweaver's FTP is not good enough

I received this dialog from DW 2017.1 build 9583 for Windows 10 x64:

There are three things wrong with it:

  • It has a spelling error (see if you can find it)
  • FileZilla has no problem carrying out this operation successfully. In fact I use a host where I can only use FileZilla (because DW FTP is so crap [Siteground])
  • the two above buttons give me no way forward. Each one just leaves me in the same dissatisfied state [bad user experience]

Why years ago when designers and developers would state that they would never even bother with DW FTP, because it is rubbish, is it still lacking?

Why is a free product from FileZilla twice as good?

2017 and it is about time you gave yourself a good kicking regarding this part of DW. It is bringing the side down and you might be unaware that it is second rate.

I use FileZilla for putting entire sites to server, and DW's FTP for putting individual files that I happen to be working on in DW. I simply accept that the one thing that FileZilla does means it does it better than DW.

I complain about Dw a lot, but the one item I have never had a problem with is the ftp.

As for the spelling mistake, it is like color and colour, the first is us english, the second is real english, (sorry to those in the US, but it's like auto and car).

Te FTP in DW works fine for me on various hosts.  I have no complaints.

That said, I use Filezilla once in a while because it's a dedicated FTP app and not a Swiss army knife.  For large video file transfers,  Filezilla is a bit faster.

Hi Nancy

I can reproduce this error all day long. There is no mysterious Bermuda triangle intermittency to it. I have fibre. I have to increase the timeout sometimes to improve things. But it is never satisfactory with all hosts. Except my Ubuntu machine (of course)

If I upload a WP or Joomla!  theme folder I can guarantee that DW's FTP WILL drop a few files.

I love it in theory. The fact that it is always loaded with DW and integrated with it is fantastically convenient. Just it sucks.

With Siteground I have to zip or tarball files and upload through the CP file manager. I have moaned to their support over three years about their FTP settings.
