I am not looking to replace DW.

I want the project team to recognize that the current goal  namely "to please all the people" is not working.  It will never work.  DW needs to be taken seriously as a tool for coders; not designers who think they want to work with code because they can't reach their objectives with the other tools they've been using.  That's a backdoor entry into DW that's never going to fly.

That's just it Nancy, if you want Dw to drop its current 'designers who wish to code' stratergy, and become a program aimed at coders who develop for the web, the current Dw is not the program one can use or adapt to such a change. Too much of the old Dw has been removed, and too many features that are not essential included. Even the ability to use different workflows are no longer supported, see -

True. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that none of the students in courses that I teach (front-end dev related) consider Dreamweaver a viable development tool. No-one. Young ones learning web and mobile dev have no interest whatsoever in using Dreamweaver AT ALL. The software is installed on all machines. It is there, and all the students have a student CC account as well.

But no-one will use it. It is considered outdated, and none of the instructors will touch DW either (myself included). There are just better tools and IDEs available (mostly for free & open source) that support modern workflows better, and most tools cater for stuff outside web dev as well, such as React Native.

Like it or not, but Dreamweaver is stigmatized, and it will prove incredibly difficult to remedy that. It's not taken seriously by professional coders. Period.

I agree that Adobe has no idea how to strategize and place Dreamweaver in the market. But that's been the case since they acquired the product. The dev team is doing their best, but how can they compete with legions of volunteers providing more flexible and powerful tools and new workflows?

If you're using a server that has PHP 7 and your php connection strings are not written with modern code, you will see errors.

MYSQLI EXAMPLE:

<?php

$con = mysqli_connect("localhost","username","password","database");

// Check connection

if (mysqli_connect_errno())

  {

  echo "Failed to connect to MySQL: " . mysqli_connect_error();

        }

        else echo "Successfully connected, happy coding!"

?>

<?php phpinfo() ?>
