well, the question is... how did you get this happen, step by step...

before posting, I just try using the drop down menu, and got a nice

<?php require(""); ?>

with the cursor blinking just in between the two double quote, waiting for ma to enter the path file

and I also try using the autocomplete in code view... And when the ending PHP was closed... I was back in HTML without the three > caracter, as you got

 <?php require "footer.html"; ?>

so please, could you help us first to be able to reproduce your case ? or perhaps do you have a screen grab that demonstrates how this happen ?

If I save php document, >> characters appear after the last php tag. Not when I write last tag..

That is what I said in the previous comment... I tried two ways of inserting a require function... and the triple chevron doesn't appear...

the best way will be that the OP send a screen grab, or as you said the page code
