DW FTP Monopolizes Internet Connection

Windows 10 64-bit

Dreamweaver 2017.5

I'm have a persistent problem with the DW FTP. The following issues are of concern:

  • Frequently it says it can't make a connection
  • When it makes a connection, service is slow and it monopolizes my internet connection so that I can use a web browser, streaming service, or anything else at the same time.
  • It's very slow to get started uploading.

Other notes:

  • I've tried Dreamwever CS5 and it does not have the same issues when tested against the same servers.
  • I've also tested FTP with another program and it didn't display the same issues either.
  • The problem with DW 2017.5 is consistent over many hosts.
  • I've tried turning on and off "Use Passive FTP"
  • I've tried turning off "Use FTP performance optimization." I thought that might have been the trick (the last one), but it only improves performance with some hosts to turn off optimization.

Any ideas?

Best regards,

James

Correct answer js_theywill

I rolled back to version 2017 Release, 9314 Build and this seems to have resolved the problem.

There is a bug in the newer versions that monopolizes the FTP and causes frequent connection errors.

Are you using a remote server, or any file system that is not on your local drive to create/edit/update your files as you work?

(not talking about uploading files manually)

I am not using a remote server or NAS files to edit as I work.

Thank you,

I'm also using the same configuration, adn doesn't face the same issue !

what happens if you quit and relaunch DW when this problem occurs? is this still slow ? (I've remarked that DW can becomes very slow, or does'nt respond as expected if running too long time without relaunching)

can you try to grab the task manager occupation ? (I've remarked that DW help can goes up higher than 1G... and really slows down perfromance)

Thanks for the reply. Relaunching doesn't help. I'll watch the taskmgr today when I use it. I think it has to be network related because it stops the network for the whole machine.

Sounds like CC is communicating with Creative Cloud.

Try Preferences > Sync Settings > Disable automatic Sync.

Thanks for the reply. My preferences weren't set to enable automatic sync. Doesn't look like that's the issue.
