DW:s inability to render code.

Oy!

I have been using DW since 1999, the good old Macromedia years. When I work, I use "split" mode, doing all coding by hand in one half of the screen and watching it come alive in the other. Way back then, this was one of the major advantages with DW. At least in my eyes.

But as years have gone by, this feature has degenerated more and more. Today, DW still doesn't understand CSS that became industry standard half a dozen years ago. Absolutely correct php throws errors. Includes are not displayed, etc, etc.

Nowadays, I need to constantly, i.e. every minute, check even the slightest modifications in the stylesheets or source code in a web browser.

Am I the only one who's annoyed by this?
Are Adobe even aware of the problem? Why is it so hard for Adobe to implement e.g. WebKit or other rendering machine to DW?

Just throwing out these questions, hoping they will lead to the major improvement that DW need.

Cheers!

Dan

You might be right. Maybe child and nth (and a gazillion other selectors and includes) will be included and rendered in "live" view in future versions of DW. I'm still at DW CS6, which ought to be able to handle most of this (which it can't).

If Adobe doesn't recognize and fix this, I might as well use a regular text editor.

Cheers,

Dan

CS6 is so old now that you are trying to render modern code in the equivalent of a 7 or 8 year old browser, it will also never be updated.

Even CS6's code editor is completely out of date.

I'm certain the Adobe Dw team is aware of the problems with design view, and personally i wish they would get rid of it, and concentrate on making live view better.

I know many users think design view should be improved, but it is outdated, and would never keep up with the requirements of moder web layouts as good as an improved and correctly functioning live view would. One could argue that newsletters are best created in design view, but as users of other features that have been removed are told to use an older version, i see no problems with telling newsletter creators to do the same.

Dw is supposed to be for web development, and that is what it should concentrate on, get rid of old, outdated, none web development related features, and improve what is required for web development.

Oi!

You are correct, and I probably should have pointed this out from the start of this thread. Being confused, as I am, about the differences between "design" and "live" view, I mean the "live" view, i.e. the option to see, directly, how edits, changes and whatnot will look in a browser.

It was 5-6 years ago that e.g. child selectors were accepted in CSS, Still, half a dozen years later, DW has no idea what's going on. I use php includes a lot, which is about as "new" as the above mentioned selectors. DW is completely baffled. Try using includes for e.g. image alt-tags (to grab the alt text from an external file) and you'll see what I mean.

I'm just in awe experiencing how Adobe obviously don't give sh*t. How hard would it be to add a WebKit browser?

(I'm not native english spoken. Some slack regarding my language and what I aim to say would be appreciated)

Cheers, and a pleasant weekend.

Live view uses the Chrome embeded framework, which is the same rendering engine as used in the Crome browser.

The latest release of Dw, (2017.5) updated the framework, but not to the same as that used in Crome browser itself. There are a number of items still not implemented, but i am sure child and nth of type are. The other problems you mention with php are being caused by the implementation of the Brackets code editor, and hopefully should be fixed in the next release, (mid October).

You are right, Design view is antiquated and has become useless since the good old days of using tables for our layouts.

Adobe has done the right thing and introduced WebKit for Live view. I am assuming that you are using the latest version of Dreamweaver.

Wappler is the DMXzone-made Dreamweaver replacement and includes the best of their powerful extensions, as well as much more!
