Errors when installing updates (CS5)

At first I thought it was "the usual problem" - occasionally, I would get this message when I tried to update a page:

Screen Shot 2021-06-21 at 11.02.18 AM.png

In the past, when I'd try again later, it would work.  Not so this time - I've been trying off and on for the past 24 hours.

I saw that there were some Adobe updates waiting to be installed, and I've tried (repeatedly) to do that, but I keep getting these error messages:

Screen Shot 2021-06-21 at 11.06.31 AM.pngScreen Shot 2021-06-21 at 11.06.20 AM.png

This is all on a Macbook that uses this OS:

Any and all help would be appreciated!

Have you called you hosting company to verify nothing changed on their end?

Certain companies, like GoDaddy, frequently lose FTP log-in credentials when they update the server.

Since DW CS5 hasn't changed since about 2010, it's unlikely that there's something suddenly wrong with the software itself.

Thank you for the response.  After seeing your reply, I sent a screen shot of the error to the hosting company, and they thought they fixed it, but I'm still getting the same error.

I should add that I had a similar problem previously when I'd updated the (Macbook) OS - doing so made something incompatible with this version of DW (or so I was told), and I have intentionally not updated the OS since.

As Nancy mentioned, grab the free Filezilla FTP Client and try uploading from there.

If it doesn't work in FZ either, it points to an issue with your FTP credentials or server. You'll need to escalate the issue with your hosting company. Sometimes the initial point of contact with hosting companies is essentially a random phone monkey with a few basic "screens" they work through before telling you it's your fault. Going up the chain of command usually gets the problem resolved.

If it does upload from FZ, at least your site will be updated while troubleshooting continues in DW.

I went to FZ earlier today and looked at downloading the FTP Client, and that led to another roadblock...

It says for Mac, OS X 10.13.2 or newer is required.  I'm using 10.11.6 (and when I check, it says there are no updates).

I'm now upgrading to 11.4...

STOP!  If you upgrade to Big Sur, you can NEVER use CS5 again.

Creative Suite is not compatible with Catalina or Big Sur.

Download High Sierra (macOS 10.13)

https://support.apple.com/kb/SP765?locale=en_US

CS5 and CS6 are on life support. But they can still be activated providing you have the following:
1. original media (disks or downloads) you received at purchase and a way to read them,
2. a legitimate serial number for that version, language and platform (Win/Mac),
3. an older operating system that can support legacy 32-bit apps.
--------------------------
NOTE 1 : Creative Suite installers won't work on macOS Sierra, High Sierra or Mojave without terminal workarounds. See the help article below.
https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/install-creative-suite-mac-os-sierra.html

NOTE 2: Creative Suite cannot run on Catalina or Big Sur. Downgrade your OS or get new software.

NOTE 3: Legacy Creative Suite is discontinued & unsupported. Use at your own risk.

I don't think software updates are your problem.  As Jon said, nothing has changed in legacy CS5 in ages.  And most of the updates were for things like Browser Lab service which doesn't exist anymore.

Try uploading to your remote server with free FileZilla S/FTP client.  It's modern and updated with the latest security patches which CS5 is sorely lacking due to its advanced age.

Failing that, contact your web host.
