Sometimes the simplest things can make you come to a screeching halt....

I have the latest version of CC and I've opened up the Standard toolbar but now I want my menu to come back and I can't figure out how to close the standard toolbar and bring the menu items back. I've tried right-clicking in the toolbar, dragging it, etc. What am I missing?

I figured it out. The dark portion of the toolbar on the far left is where you click to move the toolbar. Once I moved it out of the way, my menu options were underneath it.

Open Window > Toolbars.  Put a check mark by all the ones you require.

The toolbars won't interfere with your other menu items if you dock them to the application frame.

Click and drag the toolbar, by the dark portion you mention, to the top edge of the application frame. When the edge highlights, release the toolbar and it will lock itself to the frame below or above your other menu options.

You can do the same with all windows/panels in DW by dragging their named tab to the edges of the application frame. Once you have everything set up the way you like, make sure to save your workspace under Window >Workspace Layout > New. That way, if anything ever goes wrong with your workspace, you can simply choose to reset it under the same menu option.
