I can import GoLive site in Dreamweaver, but how do I save as Dreamweaver?

Hey guys! I have a tribute site to a spiritual master from India at windowsfromthesky. It also doubles as the best news source in the world - with more news article and video postings (just links) than you can absorb. It is also the ONLY ONE that shows you The Matrix we're living. See 'Corporate Slavery: The Shackling of America' in 'Quickstart' off the main page.

Basically, the counterfeiters are cheating the poor out of everything they have; their money, labor, rights and lives.

The site was created in Adobe GoLive 2 and I am still using that for news postings. I never learned Dreamweaver as it is much more complicated than GoLive. I'd rather avoid the hours of experimentation and frustration and just have someone tell me.

I'm very busy with my other activities.

Here's the thing. The audio in the Guru/Dialogue section no longer works. (I just recently discovered this by using my new computer to access the site. My old 2009 iMac I use to run the site still sees and plays the audio.) The newer browsers do not recognize the Quicktime used. Or something like that. This is a very powerful section of the site and it is a great loss not having it.

I'm anxious to get it back.

I own Dreamweaver CS6. And I'm thinking if I can just import and save in Dreamweaver, the conversion will update the audio files that I can then upload. I can import the old GoLive site. But I do not know how to save the entire site in a new folder in an updated Dreamweaver version.

So, can someone please tell me how to do or if it will work? I am an old man (58) and would appreciate the help.

Dreamweaver can be used to make an exact duplicate of what you have on your server by downloading your site files into a new DW Site Definition. It will not however, convert any of the old GL code in any way. There used to be an extension available that converted some GL specific code into a more modern standard variant, but the standard and the extension have been gone for some time.

Moved from the Forum Lounge (not for technical support) and over to the Dreamweaver support forum.

You would need to use some audio editing software, or an online converter, to change your audio to mp3, then re-embed the new audio into your pages. If you don't understand code, DW won't be able to help you either way.

For better or worse, DW assumes the user understands html, css and some javascript. Without those basics under your belt, it's a very steep learning curve to get the program to do what you want. Also, GL sites were never created with today's internet in mind. Modifying the outdated code may not be worth the effort, when a complete redesign to modern standards is what's needed.

Dreamweaver is an HTML editor.  It cannot convert your audio files.

For what it's worth your audio still works for me in Firefox on Win10 although I can't tell you why it works.  Between the proprietary GoLive code and unfortunate use of FRAMES, code forensics are nearly impossible.  So I'm not going to waste my time on it and neither should you.

I realize this site is a labor of love and all.  But migrating this into DW won't solve your problems.  In fact it might make some things worse than they are now.  You would have to rebuild the whole thing from scratch anyway.  And I don't know if you're up to that challenge.

You might want to take a look at Adobe Muse which is aimed at non-coders (similar in some ways to GoLive).

But you would have to rebuild your site in Muse because it can't work with old sites.

Apple discontinued support for legacy QuickTime player plugins. That's why you can't hear the audio on your Mac.   See related Apple article. If your web browser says that it's missing the QuickTime plug-in - Apple Support

This an old thread but I will chip in anyway. Jon and Nancy are right. You would be much better off starting fresh but to lessen the pain a lot I would suggest that you use P7 templates. http://projectseven.com/products/templates/pagepacks/typecrafters/index.htm

I am older than you and was able to convert my GolIve site to a DW site using P7. But it is still a lot of work.

Since you've resurrected this old topic, I should add here that Adobe Muse is EOL now.  It's no longer being developed.  Support for Muse will officially end in March 2021.   So I can no longer recommend Muse as a replacement for GoLive.
