Good morning,
I bought Dreamweaver 4 for my old Mac from 2014 with Big Sur. Stupid question: where is the key?
I have a second question: on the 2 CDs in the box, only the "green" one comes up,
nd there is only a setup.exe on it. The other CD (the "white" one) does not mount
(via an external CD player). If anyone could help me... Thank you.

Please take this as friendly advice, throw the software and the key away, the software will be a real hinderence with its ancient features. A really good replacement is VSCode which is free of charge.

PROBLEM #1:

MacOS Big Sur is 64-bits only.  It can't handle relic 32-bit software.  That train left the station with Mojave.

PROBLEM #2:

Even if you could install DW4 on a modern computer,  the software is too obsolete to understand your hard drive's memory.  It was built to recognize Kilobytes & Millibytes; not Gigabytes and Terabytes that we use today.

PROBLEM #3:

24 year old web authoring software is 1000% incompatible with modern web devices, browsers and web coding standards.  You migh

You must be joking, the software originated in the stone-age era as per:

Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 is the fourth major version of Dreamweaver that was released by Macromedia on November 27, 2000

But to answer your question, contact the seller of the software as they are sure to have the serial number.

No such animal exists.

As of 2020, Microsoft stopped releasing 32-bit Windows 10 builds for new PCs.  All modern computer architecture is fully 64-bit now.

Use 20 year old software at your own risk of failures and read/write errors.  Product support ended ages ago.

I have been using Dreamweaver 4 for 20 years on successive Windows versions
to create various sites, such as http://www.vervinomni.net/1.htm
<>. It has always worked perfectly, but I
need to reinstall it and have lost my original CD and key. I installed
version 8 I found on the internet. It works, but is MUCH INFERIOR to
version 4.

I struggle to think of any conceivablemreason why I would lie about this.

We can't help you.  DW 4 no longer exists.

You'll need to find replacement software you can use instead.

First off, my apology for my disbelief. This was triggered by

"I have a 2024 DELL 34 bit Windows Computer"

But now I realise the typo, "34" which should have read "64".

However, Dreamweaver versions prior to and including Dreamweaver CC6 are very much outdated. In fact, even the latest version of Dreamweaver is showing its age.

Using an outdated version of Dreamweaver is reflected in your website, where HTML tables are used for the layout. This practice was discouraged when HTML4 was released in 1998 and with the introduction of CSS1.

Today, we use Flexbox and CSS Grid. The former is the easier one to learn and would most likely suffice for your application.

If you want to modernise, ditch Dreamweaver and have a look at using WordPress for a free-of-charge alternative. If you plan on making web development a carreer, then have a look at using VSCode or invest, as I have done, in Wappler.

Wappler, the only real Dreamweaver alternative.

Thank you. It's odd, but I use Wordpress and find it much more complicated,
inflexible and very irritating. Tables in Dreamweaver work perfectly for
me. I have tried other things but none have the WYSYWYG capability of
Dreamweaver 4.

Here is the first site I created: full of tables:
https://www.nemoinsula.net/index.htm

But I will explore your suggestions.

Toss your disks into the recycle bin and call it a day.  The seller is unlikely to give you your money back.

Good morning,
Many thanks to you BenPleysier and Nancy OShea. I am trying to translate your answers ASAP because it is very technical. Obviously, I understand most of it. I'm going to test VSCode, but at the moment the software is in an old Mac and asks me in all Macs for an update. FYI, I have a key.
Thanks again to you,
David

Requirements to run Visual Studio Code:

Visual Studio Code is a small download (< 200 MB) and has a disk footprint of < 500 MB. VS Code is lightweight and should easily run on today's hardware.

  • 1.6 GHz CPU or faster processor
  • 1 GB of RAM or higher

  • Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit)
  • macOS versions with Apple security update support. This is typically the latest release and the two previous versions.

https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/supporting/requirements

Big Sur is discontinued and no longer supported by Apple.

Great. I will try to see, THANK YOU. At the moment, I don't understand much about VSCode, but I'll get used to it I think. I especially need the encoded page to be viewed on all browsers.
Thank you again.
