Bootstrap 5x has no jQuery dependencies. That was only for previous versions of Bootstrap, vers 3 & 4.

Replace the code you have now with this from Bootstrap's CDN:

<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">
  <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
    <title>Bootstrap demo</title>
    <link href="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/bootstrap@5.3.8/dist/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet" integrity="sha384-sRIl4kxILFvY47J16cr9ZwB07vP4J8+LH7qKQnuqkuIAvNWLzeN8tE5YBujZqJLB" crossorigin="anonymous">
  </head>
  <body>
    <h1>Hello, world!</h1>
    <script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/bootstrap@5.3.8/dist/js/bootstrap.bundle.min.js" integrity="sha384-FKyoEForCGlyvwx9Hj09JcYn3nv7wiPVlz7YYwJrWVcXK/BmnVDxM+D2scQbITxI" crossorigin="anonymous"></script>
  </body>
</html>

Ctrl+S to save the document to your local site folder. Example, C:\mySite\

Sorry, hit send too quick.

So do I alter the CDN links?

No need to. These are links to the latest Bootstrap 5 scripts on Bootstrap's official CDN.

Please reference Bootstrap's documentation for details on how to use Bootstrap 5.

If you decide to change Bootstrap versions, edit link paths accordingly.

So I figured it out.  When I went to SITE in the menu bar to create NEW SITE I decided to look around at all the options.  In the side menu bar I went to ADVANCED SETTINGS and saw a menu heading BOOTSTRAP.  There you can choose the bootstrap version.  Since most of the online tuturials on Dreamweaver is version 4 I clicked on that and hit saved.  That worked, and I no longer get the UNDEFINED line.

Not sure why the developers did not correct this in the last update to do away with the dependency line, but I am now cooking with gas 🙂

This also fixed the issue with being able to align the navbar over to the right side of the page.  With Bootstrap 5 when I tried to move the menu it would only center or align to the left side of the page.  I wanted the menu on the right side.

Bootstrap 4 is deprecated and no longer supported by Bootstrap. It officially reached its

end of life (EOL) on January 1, 2023. The official Bootstrap team no longer provides free active support, new features, updates, or security fixes for version 4.

Sadly, DW stopped making improvements to the scripts so it's woefully outdated on some things.

That said, there's no reason NOT to use Bootstrap 5x and code manually. It's far superior to previous versions b/c you can do more with less code.  And BS5 doesn't require jQuery, which few developers use anymore, except on legacy sites.

In bottom line, there’s no real debate: Bootstrap 4 has indeed reached end of life, and Bootstrap 5 is today the most sensible way to go for a new project. That said, when reading through the thread, the original issue does not stem from a deliberate choice between BS4 and BS5, but rather from an unintentional mismatch between the Bootstrap configuration declared in Dreamweaver (BS4) and manually added Bootstrap 5 files, which explains the "undefined".

The key point here is therefore the tool itself. Dreamweaver still injects legacy snippets based on the Bootstrap version selected in the site settings. When this configuration does not match the files actually being used, confusion is almost inevitable. This does not prevent using Bootstrap 5, but it does mean working without the WYSIWYG palettes and managing components and libraries manually.

From a security standpoint, Bootstrap 4 is not the issue here. The real concerns are mainly around JavaScript and dependencies, in particular the jQuery version, which is not end of life and is still maintained. In practice, on a BS4 project, the main point of attention is therefore a jQuery's version consistency.

In the end, Bootstrap 5 is the most future-proof choice for a new site. However, if the goal is to move quickly in Dreamweaver with visual assistance and ready-made components, Bootstrap 4 remains a pragmatic option, provided that the jQuery version in use is monitored (ideally a recent 3.x release) and the overall configuration remains consistent. As often, it’s more a matter of context, tooling, and working habits than of absolute rules.
