Linking Pick-Whip [drag & drop animation in Catalina] not working?

Ever since I upgraded from my 2012 Mac Pro to the current 2019 Mac Pro running Catalina last July, the pick-whip animation line no longer appears? Dragging from the @ symbol to the file I want to link works, but I have to make sure the cursor is right over the target as the squiggly line no longer appears?

I am running Catalina 10.15.7 currently. The Pick-Whip animation works on my 2015 MacBook Pro with the same version of Catalina, just not the Mac Pro... any ideas?

Are you sure that this is a Dreamweaver related issue?

Not sure what else it would be. I know the new Mac Pro I have has a w5700x GPU and I have had lots of trouble with other Adobe apps crashing (usually on launch) - AI, InDesign & Acrobat in particular. The usual Apple blames Adobe and vice versa.

Everything else inside DW seems to be working fine.

I always thought that `Pick Whip` belonged to After Effects. Just goes to show, never too old to learn. Now I just need to know where the tool is located in Dreamweaver. Perhaps @nancy_OShea can assist.

Yes, I think the Pick-Whip was a carry over from Adobe GoLive which I used to use before DW.

Hi @johnd5989867,

Sorry but you are mistaken.  PickWhip has nothing to do with Dreamweaver and never has.

Given that GoLive ended development more than 15 years ago and today's web, devices & browsers are nothing like they were in 2006, you should find other solutions to use on the web instead of outdated plugins from the distant past.

Wow.js is widely used with animate.css for scrolling & animation effects on web pages.  Best of all, Wow.js is plain vanilla JavaScript with no jQuery dependencies.  As such, it should work with all modern devices.

https://wowjs.uk/

Hope that helps.

The Pick-Whip feature and animation is working fine in Dreamweaver CC with Big Sur on my Mac Pro - just is not working on my Mac Pro running Catalina. Works just like it did in Adobe GoLive (and always has inside DW over the years). Pick-Whip feature still works in DW in all cases, I just don't "see" the whip animation line when dragging from the "@" symbol in the properties panel to the files panel on the Mac Pro.

@johnd59898678,

1. Adobe doesn't support obsolete software like GoLive which was built on 32-bit technology and predated 64-bit OSs like Catalina and Big Sur. 32-bit apps are NOT compatible with 64-bit OSs.

2. Adobe does not support 3rd party add-ons.

3. We can't help you because this is NOT part of Dreamweaver.   Suggest you revert back to your former OS or stop using legacy 32-bit tools.

Goodbye & best of luck!

1. Not using GoLive - have not since Adobe quit selling it?

2. I am not using a 3rd party add-on.

3. The pick-whip function IS built-in to Dreamweaver  and has been as far back as I can remember - I am using it today on my latest version od DWCC in Big Sur on my Macbook Pro laptop!

If you have a component called Pick-Whip inside the DW interface, you got it from a 3rd party extension developer.   The only reference I can find to Pick-Whip is in After Effects.  There is no mention of it anywhere in context to Dreamweaver.

Honestly and truthfully, I don't know where you obtained it but it is DEFINITELY NOT part of the standard Dreamweaver build from as far back as I've been using it  -- late 90's.

If you think Adobe technical support can help you with this problem (I doubt it), call them by phone, M-F, during normal business hours or connect over secure online chat.

Good luck!

John, you are correct, it is I that did not understand the terminology. But with the assistance of Bing I managed to translate `Pick Whip` into Dreamweaver language. It is called `Drag and Drop`.

Drag and Drop in code view doesn't work since DW CC 2017. In Design view, Drag and Drop works fine.

OP, are you talking about this animation, when clicking and dragging the Point To File icon in the Properties window?

pickwhip.jpg

I'm on Windows 10, and it works but just barely, there is a lot of corruption in the animation for me as you can see in the screenshot above.

Have you tried Restoring Preferences yet?

That tends to clear up a lot of odd happenings in DW.

Yes, that is the animation line I am referring to. Mine does not appear at all on my Mac Pro, but works fine on my Macbook Pro.

I suspect there "may"be a compatibility problem with the w5700x GPU and Adobe software in general as lots of us with that hardware configuration have had lots of problems with AI, InDesign, Acrobat and even Photoshp crashing. Apple says it is Adobe and vica-versa.

I tried Restoring Prefs in DW - no change. The linking works, jusy no visual indication.

Unfortunately, that may be one of those handy but "low priority to keep it working" functions when it comes to hardware issues and new OS problems.

I would definitely report it using the Submit Bug/Feature Request option in your DW Help menu.

At least then it would get in front of the Dev team and allow other users to upvote the issue if they're also seeing it. If enough people are having the same problem, that would help get it moved closer to the front of the bug-fix pile for the next release.
