my search box not positioned correctly on the page in Chrome browser

I have added padding-left of 170px to move my search box so it sits nicely in the middle and above the horizontal line.  This is ok in both Design and Live view and also ok in Edge, FF and IE.  As you can see in the second image Chrome is ignoring the padding and is positiong the box to the left edge.  The page is online at http://v26.ancestry.higgsy.co.uk/index.php

Here is what it should look like:

search_box_ok.PNG

and this is how I see it in Chrome:

search_box_wrong.PNG

I tried to ensure the page validated before this post but as I have some old macromedia nonsense in this page I get loads of errors for that code, but I can't see how this could be part of the problem as the other browsers and DW display the search box ok.  Any thoughts you clever people? Thanks

It looks fine in my version of Chrome (Windows 7, Chrome 54.0.2840.71m).

My guess would be that one of your html errors might be causing the inconsistent display in whichever browser/platform/device you happen to be using.

Thanks John.  I have just gone through my process of moving to the next version of my site which involves copying all the files up to a fresh folder on my host. Lo and behold the fault is fixed.  The new version is at http://v27.ancestry.higgsy.co.uk/
