In my opinion, nobody writes better about MySQL than Paul
DuBois. I have
all three editions of the book. My only criticism is that
it's such a
door-stopper. There are 250 pages in the middle that I never
read
(programming MySQL with C, Perl, and PHP), and the index is
now 100
pages long. To "save space", the third edition doesn't tell
you if a
feature won't work in MySQL 3.23 or 4.0, although that
information is
apparently on the companion website.
The fourth edition, when it comes, needs some heavy pruning
or probably
to be split into two books: using MySQL and administering
MySQL. Apart
from these minor complaints, I would strongly recommend
"MySQL" (3rd
Edition) by Paul DuBois.
