Moving Dreamweaver files to a new laptop. Dreamweaver CS5.5 Version 11.5 Build 5366 on old laptop.
Reinstalled the program on the new laptop. Version 11.5 but BUILD 5315
Assuming an update happened along the way.
All my SITE files are .site on the old laptop. The new laptop and older build will NOT open them. It wants .ste files.
Naturally an update download is NOT in my download folder of applications. How do I get the same build onto the new laptop?
Thanks!
Are you sure you've exported the site information in the older program correctly? DW doesn't make .site files on export.
Open the old DW and choose Site > Manage Sites > click the site you want > Export. That will create a .ste file of the site settings. You then need to copy that file, along with the site's root folder (containing all of your html, css and images) to the new computer. You then go to Site > Manage Sites > Import, in the new machine's DW, to bring the settings in from the .ste fil

There is no file exported by DW that will contain the entire site. The .ste file DW exports contains only the settings telling the program how to deal with the files that must be brought in separately.

HI,
Exporting the site from the old machine and importing it in new machine should solve the problem as mentioned by Jon.
Importing a site also imports all the servers associated with the site.
Please try it out.
Thanks,

The CS5.5 updater can be obtained below. But frankly, it's almost useless now. Too much has changed since its release in 2012.

Hi - I'm afraid I didn't magae to create a .ste file for one site, and now my old Mac and old programme have gone. So, all I have on my new Mac is Dreamweaver 20.1, and all my .html files and associated files - one set on my mac in a site folder, and the files on my remote server. is there a way to create a .ste file from these? Or how can I enable these local files to be edited and exported?

Sure, just create a new blank site in DW under Site > New... and browse to the folder containing your local copies of the site files and use it as the site's Root Folder.
You'll then need to enter all of your FTP credentials (username, password, server address and server root directory) from your hosting company.
