I have been unable to log onto my website for a few days as I keep getting FTP errors... unable to log onto to site.
When I contacted my hosting company yesterday I was told they dropped using FTP from their servers.
The IT guy writes:
<< It appears we did in fact turn off FTP access from our servers. However, you can still access your files via ‘cpanel’>>
He then provided me a cpanel address, user name and password to access the cpanel.
Can any of this information now be used to plug into the Manage Site area on Dreamweaver so I can access my website?
Thanks.

Wow, that is indeed a bummer! They might still allow SFTP (secure FTP), but other than that it sounds like they may want you to interface directly with your site using cPanel, not using FTP in any form.
If so, that will pretty much wipe out the Dreamweaver synchronization process since that’s the only means by which it can communicate/sync.
You might still have some sort of cPanel file manager, but DW won’t be able to use it (as far as I know).

If no more FTP and no Dreamweaver synchronization, then my present hosting company will no longer work for me. Are there any reputable free hosting services around? I've never needed to ask this question before, but will be exploring now that I heard word back that my hosting company is turning off access to FTP.

My present hosting company rep said he's never worked with DreamWeaver, but wants to know if DreamWeaver uses SFTP.
Does it?
Thanks.
