What do you mean by applying a PDF file to an HTML page? And you also mention frames in your post and frontpage. Based on what you are sharing so far, your best bet will be to share the page you are having issues with so we can see what is going on. However, given that this is sounding like a very old frames based site made in frontpage, your best bet may be to explore a new template/theme/cms to bring your website up to more modern standards.

if your the developers of DW, I would sujest updating the new DW with the features of previous versions of DW so I can work on the main frame of the frame sets, I have a top, side, and main frames, of the frame set

It would also be nice to have a tool bar were I can work with text, images, and frames

@Stephen37616377xzno,

  • FRAMES are obsolete in current HTML code.
  • The WWW Consortium dropped FRAMES from the standard code base in mid-2000s.  See screenshot below.

Your site sounds like a bit of a mess for today's site visitors. Mobile devices (smartphones & tablets) can't support framed websites. Only a few browsers can still display them.  Frames would pose a navigational nightmare for current web users.

What is your intended goal here -- to keep doing business as usual for a handful of people?  Or do you want to rebuild your site so that it performs well for everyone?

Incidentally, Dreamweaver is in minimal maintenance status since 2021.  No new features are being added except essential security & compatibility updates.

No one here is a developer of DW and DW is in minimal maintenance mode only receiving critical updates at this point in time.

Without seeing your current site it is difficult to make a recommendation about how you should approach solving to update your frames to a more modern design. Some of this will come down to your comfort level with editing code and what you are looking for in the next iteration of your site. Then you can explore whether a hosted solution is best, or looking to a CMS like Wordpress, or looking for an alternative editor, or whether you should migrate to a template or framework.

PDF are not web files.  They are media files.

To view PDF, the user's device must have a supporting PDF viewer -- i.e. Adobe Acrobat or free Acrobat Reader.

For the best user experience, insert a web image (JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF) on the page that browsers can display along with a text link to the PDF file for users to download and open in their favorite PDF viewer.

Example Code:

<img src="images/your_image.jpg"> <a href="some_link.pdf">Link to PDF (56 KB)</a>

===========

What you want isn't possible.

  • FRAMES & FRAMESETS are obsolete.
  • Dreamweaver ver. 21 doesn't support them.
  • No code editor can display PDF.

Sorry.

it looks like you're trying to apply PDF files to update the main frame created with FrontPage. Unfortunately, PDFs can't be directly applied to HTML frames.

You may need to convert the PDFs to HTML or embed them using an <iframe> tag. If you need specific guidance on converting or embedding, let me know!
