I have been using Dreamweaver Ultradev satisfactorily for years. Suddenly itis asking for the serial number (which I have) every time I open it. How do I stop this happening? Platform is Windoes 11.

My computer does not allow Windows 11 to be installed. It is too old. Conversely, a 22 year old product will not install on Windows 11. Think of it: 32 bits compared with 64 bits. It is impossible.

But it does run on Windows 11. Just asks for the serial number before opening!

I think your best bet is probably going to be to copy/paste the serial number, from a text file you keep on your desktop, to the program each time you fire it up.
If it ever ran correctly under Windows 11, then it's very likely that an update to your OS has caused something to go haywire to UltraDev's serial number retention.
Adobe has never updated, sold or supported UltraDev in any way. That program came out 4 versions and 5 years prior to Adobe's acquisition of Macromedia.

Good suggestion about copy/paste. Will do that. Thanks.

You either need to run a virtual machine with Windows 98/2000 or it's time to upgrade DW from Ultradev. Just be thankful it ran as long as it did without crashing.

I'm sorry to be blunt but Ultradev is a relic from a bygone era. It's no longer fit for modern use and should not be used in 2022.
You really need a new code editor. If not Dreamweaver CC (sold by subscription) then something other than what you have.

You are welcome to your opinion and, in principle, I agree with you. However, I am just an amateur 80 year old web site builder and am quite happy using DW Ultradev with a little additional CSS, Javascript and PHP.

Congratulations sir, I take my hat off to you. You are one year my senior.
May I make a sensible suggestion now that you have gotten yourself Windows 11? Get software that matches the operating system, it'll make you much more content. I speak from experience when I moved from Dreamweaver to Wappler, I couldn't be happier. For the price of a latte per week, I have one of the best web authoring programs on today's market.
To whet your appetite, have a look at the playlist that I created on YouTube.

Came to research the same question.
Kinda blows me away that some folks, specially in such a field of hobby/expertise as represented here, would be "Oh So troubled" by another person wanting to do a roundabout software thing and asking about that thing to the point of responding like it's a minecraft thread on the level of "just use a controller" replies to "how to install a mouse driver" type question. Smh.
Is this not the very definition of (originally anyway) "hacking"? I've used computers 42.34 years out of 50 and I've never made a dime. Might have liked to had things gone another way. That said almost ALL I personally do to occupy my time on a computer or just about anything with current flowing through it is to make the square peg fit into the round hole., loving every minute of it. The very fact that This CD marked copywrite 1998-2000 contains a program I can use to build something to go online and have it work. IS hacking. (and yes I know it will indeed run, on Win11, 64-bits, as an another CD I had used few months ago, conatining a version of UltraDev that , , ahem, bypassed this step, ahem, worked flawlessly; twenty year old CD btw and no I do not mess with software of that ilk in almost as long, but it was located first...)
Anyway. I'll spend two nights scouring sites and forums and old drivers and this/that just to make the One thing do the Other thing having zero actual use. Wow, you got the roku box to spit out data turd into a folder that says nothing to automatically deposit into a file that then turns into a background on that phone that flip phone. slow claps. It was useful to me though, just for fun which is good enough but also for in that searching that much more knowledge was gained and since the whole of "computing" is what I enjoy I've just had a great time. Anybody asking such a question...I don't think they are actually under any illusions of reasons why it's an idiotic move so it always blows me away when you get the "reprimands" sorta speak. Audio threads which I've made a hobby of restoring old equipment is by FARRRRR the worst on this account lol.
Oh AND I didn't have to pay 29.99/mo to do it 😜 and while I mean no personnel, I myself cannot stand and will never pay for software on a subscription basis. Not that I've any issues, to each their own, I'm not a professional. So have that luxury.
Now, you'll excuse me as I get back to creating MP3's on Cubase 5 and Reason right before I make a (currently all the rage in circles) CD cover art in Bryce 6.1 thank you very much.
Take care to everyone, and thanks @BenPleysier for the tip about Wappler.

Thanks for your 7 paragraph commentary to a 2 year old topic, about 2 decades old web software (UltraDev) that's unsupported. The world is a better place now. 🙄
Just so you know, Wappler is by subscription. See below for details.
