LEGEND ,

Hi Folks,

Has anyone here used XAMPP for Windows?

http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html

Thoughts? Advice?

Thanks.
Phil

It's a good, reliable way to get Apache, PHP, and MySQL up and running, but
I think you are better off in the long run learning to install things
individually and configuring them. However, I have used this in the past
with no problems.

I adopted a PII/400 which was heading for silicon heaven and installed
Fedora on it. It's been about 3 years now and a couple of upgrades, but
it's still running fine.

Doing this allows you to more closely mimic the operating environment
you'll be working in. (Many Apache hosts run it under some variant of
*nix, generally some Linux distro.) It also doesn't suck processor
cycles from your main development box.
