Whenever I do ctrl +c to select a something the whole stylesheet gets selected. And that is not what I want.
Even is I want to copy something from an other css into the css I am working on it won't do the job.
Anyone having the same problem and found a solution?

Forgive me as I'm new to DW CS4, but I may have a solution. I encountered the css copy problem as well, but I turned off (unchecked) "Enable Related Files" (Edit -> Preferences -> General -> Document Options -> Enable Related Files). I had to restart Dreamweaver, but this seems to have fixed the bug.
I've never used the "Enable Related Files" feature, so it's not a big deal to me - much less of a big deal than not being able to copy and paste. At least it seems to be a stable work around to t

Sounds a nightmare, but I have no problems copying selected text in
style sheets in either Windows or Mac. I don't know what could be
causing the problem for you.

The only thing I changed in my preferences is adding a keybord shortcut: ctrl + q = save all.
Strange thing is that it only gives the error in the stylesheet when copy and pasting, no such problem in html

I doubt if that would be responsible, but it might be worth undoing it
to see if it makes any difference.
I realize how frustrating something like this can be, and wish I could
help. I just wanted you to know that it's not the normal behaviour.
Tracking down the cause of an erratic problem like this is extremely
difficult unless others can reproduce it. Once you find several people
with the same problem, it becomes easier to identify things their
systems have in common. FWIW, I tested on a Mac Book Pro running OS X
10.5.6.

I was hoping with this topic that some other users experienced the same problem (and found a solution)
There is no difference between ctrl+c or a right mouse click and copy, they both highlight the whole css.
I did reset the keybord shortcuts to Dreamweaver standard but that made no change.
When I open a .css file the first click in the file randomly selects a big part of the css. Then when I click again I get a normal view but when I want to copy a selection I made automatically it selects the entire .css.
Thanks again for trying to find a solution. Perhaps in future someone recognizes this topic.
(working on Desktop PC, Vista Home Premium)
Edit: I discovered that:
when opening a .html file and then look in code-view, opening the attached .css the problem does not excist, I can copy and paste without a problem. So it seems only tot be a problem when I open the .css file on its own.
Weird...........

Description of problem: Roughly 50% of the time, when switching between files (regardless of type) and trying to select a block of code with my mouse (dragging over some code with the left button), it appears to work normally (the intended code is highlighted). However, when then attempting to CTRL-C (cut) or paste, the selected code instantly changes to a much larger block of code (usually selecting a specific div block or something). The cut or pasted code is then the larger (unintended) block of code.
Once the code view selection works for a particular file (either it worked from the start or I poked at it long enough to work), it seems to remain working until switching to another file and then returning.
Also, Dreamweaver CS3 didn't have this problem, so it's CS4 only.
This is a workflow nuisance much like a word-processor deciding to insert a % character randomly every 10 seconds while typing.
I found a Google groups thread here in which a poster writes that deleting the Dreamweaver configuration file fixes this temporarily (the problem eventually shows up again, and you lose all your customizations by doing this). The posters in this thread also describe the same problem with other hardware configurations.
My current workaround is to type return then backspace when dropping in to the code-view of another file--kind of a pain, but at least predictable. I also tried avoided the issue by: (a) selecting something in the design view and then selecting something in the code view, and/or (b) telling Dreamweaver to show the "element view" (right click in design view, element view, Full), but this latter action may be superfluous.
I'd be very interested if someone were to post a simple fix for this problem.
thanks!

I tried changing the workspace to "Classic" and then back to my custom layout and the problem seems to have gone away for now... so it seems to be something related to the workspace definition? I don't have the extra "code view" panel open in my workspace, but perhaps there is a virtual "tug-o-war" between the code view panel and the split-view in the main window?
thanks,
JP

I have just switched from the Classic workspace to Designer, and still
have no problem selecting and copying a section of CSS (Windows Vista
Business Premium).
At the training centre where I teach, I always use the Designer
workspace, and have never encountered this problem there either.

When on a .css file, the 1st click selects the entire page of code. When working on an HTML file I usually use split view and work in the code. Been doing it this way for years - since DW4 - with no problems at all. Now CS4 wants to expand the section on its own 1/2 the time. It's very annoying and makes copy/pasting blocks of code near impossible.
I'm on a Win XP Pro PC. CS4 Web Premium, 2MB RAM.
What's the deal? Is there a fix? Please help us Adobe, you're our only hope!

I have a very similar problem. If I highlight source code and then either press ctrl+c or use edit/copy a far larger amount of code becomes highlighted. In some cases the entire file is highlighted and copied. This is very annoying and is now causing major problems with productivity.
I run CS4 on two machines:
1: vista ultimate
2: XP professional
I have the same problem on both.
Adobe - have you any idea what may be causing this? I'm sure we are not alone.

The problem is that it's an intermittent bug. I was involved in the beta
testing, and never came across problems with copy/paste. I have used DW
CS4 daily since its release, and have never been affected on either Mac
or Windows. Unless the cause can be identified, it's impossible to fix.
I know that's of little comfort to anyone suffering from this problem,
but it's not a case of a clearly identified bug that hasn't been addressed.

Adobe will only see this if you communicate directly to them. This forum is
not the way to do that.

And another thing: why don't Adobe have someone permanently monitoring this forum for problems? They should take a leaf out of Talk Talk's books, who have a whole team of people scouring their forums looking for problems to solve.

I don't deny that some people are suffering, but until a reproducible
pattern can be identified, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.
There is probably some common feature, such as having a particular
program installed or service running in the background.

The Community Experts monitor the forums and provide feedback to the
engineering team. I'm pretty sure it has been reported before, but I'll
report it again.

many users who do not have these problems. Nobody posts to say "I have to

But to add insult to injury so to speak, I never saw this problem with any
installation of DW on G3/G4/iMac with OS going back to prehistoric
versions....

I'm sorry but that is entirely irrelevant here. DW is a commercial product which is part of an expensive commercial suite of products which one can reasonably expect to work as promoted. I am quick to sing a product's praises at every opportunity where it might help sales, but that works both ways.
As I said, I develop apps myself so I understand very well the nature of intermittent bugs, but I also understand the size of Adobe's resources and the size of its turnover. I'm not impressed with a text editor that can't even cut and paste properly!
