Remove Adobe Updater from OS X menu bar?

I have Mac OS X 10.7.4 on a MacBook Pro. The menu bar is getting cluttered. I have Adobe Dreamweaver and Photoshop (and  Reader). Is it necessary to have the Adobe Updater icon on the menu bar?  If it is not necessary (if its function can be otherwise accomplished), I would like to remove it. How is that done? Thank you.

    I'm running 10.10.4 with CC 2.1.3.121

    I'm having the same symptom you reported earlier, just getting the warning about CC being broken.

    It's also disappointing that the prefs read didn't give anything...


    Just tested on another machine. CC 2015, Yosemite 10.10.4.

    Confirming my steps as well:

    • Navigate to: Applications/Utilities/Adobe Creative Cloud/ACC/ 
    • Rename Creative Cloud app to Creative Cloudx -requires password
    • Go to menubar and click the AAM icon and select updater
    • Click preferences
    • uncheck notify me of new updates, icon should disappear from menubar
    • rename Creative Cloud app to original name -requires password

    Great method Rueez, but I just found a shortcut to your method...

    1. Simply navigate to: Applications /Adobe Creative Cloud /

    2. In that file you'll see 2 files; "Adobe Creative Cloud" and "Uninstall Adobe Creative Cloud".  Rename Adobe Creative Cloud to Adobe Creative Cloudx.  When I did that the icon in themenu bar disappeared!

    3. Rename it straight back to original name (get rid of the x!)

     

    This way you don't need to open anything up or find some 'Preferences' thing and find boxes to uncheck etc!

    Dreamwaver CS6 , I have one of Errol 16  should to be  how removed, I have no idea plese tell me also provide me  some method, solve me problem.

    My solution (mostly because I don't like all these little Adobe processes running and sucking up processor time – there is no reason I should have to give 2% of my CPU to Adobe's updaters):

    1. cd /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Creative Cloud/ACC
    2. rename "Creative Cloud.app" to "Pig.app"

    Now just leave it. I start it up every month or so just to make sure there aren't any interesting updates, then kill it again. Make sure your preferences are set so that it doesn't try to start up automatically (won't really matter since it's renamed though).

    Adobe's installers and updaters have always been a sore point. I think the problem is they've tried to come up with a universal solution that works on Mac as well as PCs, and somehow this technology must be a mess because of it...

      7/17/15 - This issue is still around for CC15

      I was able to bypass the CC app from launching by default by using the suggestion of renaming the app to Creative CloudX, however, this now just alerts you that you need Creative Cloud and should download it. It does not actually launch AAM so that you can turn off the notification.

      Why hasn't Adobe addressed this issue? I've tried to look this up several times over the last few years and have never found a solution that works for me.

        Why adobe... Why are these stupid annoying things still holding up our workflow...

        Click on open updater does not work for me... It just opens the creative cloud app... No place to remove prefs... Ugh... How do I get this stupid Adobe updater thing off... I only need the creative cloud....

            This doesn't work.

            There is no such option in my Adobe Updater.

            I even tried removing the dumb App but the menu is still there but no longer works.  Trying to reinstall fails.

            I wish Apple would take action against Adobe for their creepy nonstandard and invasive virus like installation system.

              I don't exactly remember all the instructions but if you do a search on the net for getting rid of the thing you will find plenty of detailed instructions of what to do. But I would suggest that you do it in such a way (like keep all the files and screen shots of where they should be) that you can restore it in case you regret it later.

              What's the point of posting "please google it" instead of posting something helpful?

              Obviously I googled it, could not find the answer. The only thing I regret is my purchase, since I didn't authorize Adobe to inflict invasive malware on my Mac, but fortunately I can cancel that.

              Hi there,

              Click on the icon and select "Open Updater", and then go to Preferences. You should get a window like the one below, uncheck "Notify me of new updates in the menu bar". Let me know if that helps!

                With the icon  off the menu bar, will the Adobe apps be included in the update process at "Apple>>Software update" or in some other way ... or have I seen my last Dreamweaver and Photoshop update? (After decades as a Windows user, I am still new to Apple.)

                  What?  If you disable that you will only get pop-ups when the programs open.  Apple Software Update is for Apple software.  It would be like asking Windows Update  to update Dreamweaver for you. The only time it will show in the menu bar is if there is an update you should run.  Personally I think you would be better off leaving it so you remember to update rather than turning it off.  Once you update the icon goes away. 


                  SneakEyes02 may be right.

                  However, having removed it from the menu bar, I can't figure out how to restore it.

                  At Applications, there are the following  items: Adobe folder in which are Help, Widget Browser, Patch Files, and Flash Player; Adobe  Bridge,  AdobeDevice Central,  Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5,  Adobe Extension Manager CS5.5, Adobe Photoshop CS5.1, and Adobe Reader.

                  In none of them, including a search of the Help file, do I find "Adobe Updater" or simply "Updater".
